Manhattan Deli

We brought Frida Kahlo to Des Moines' Ingersoll Avenue thanks to artist Ally Frame! The moment we bought our Deli, we knew that we wanted to do something bold and important to the highly visible, east side exterior wall of the Deli. It was never a matter of "what" we would put there, we knew it would be Frida.
Frida was a bold, determined, fierce woman who was incredibly artistic and very cultured. She was a talented artist, primarily foucused on Mexican Folk Culture. She embraced her heritage and honored traditions while crushing the status quo and bending the rules. She loved her home in Mexico and she loved food & travel. She loved life and she lived her's proudly and without apologies. She was authentic and vivacious. Frida Kahlo, July 6th, 1907 to July 13th, 1954.
We hope our mural on iconic Ingersoll Avenue brings a ray of sunshine to all who encounter her. When you drive by her, know that we are inside the Deli, chasing our dreams and proud of what we are doing. We are working together as Owner/Operators and working alongside our incredible team making people super happy by serving them the same comfort foods they've been eating at Manhattan Deli for over 40 years. Art and Food are a constant in life, so we brought the two together at our little deli on Ingersoll. We are over the moon excited at this opportunity to keep the Manhattan Deli tradition alive in Des Moines!

I was checking Delaney's seesaw (app for school) and she often will send her teachers random videos wishing them well, or goodnight, or just talking to talk.
Well.... I found this as a sent video from earlier today. I hope her teacher laughed as hard as I did....

*update* Daddy thought she was just making a "tutorial" like she typically does. He didn't know she uploaded it to seesaw and sent it to her 1st grade teacher!

#ThrowbackThursday: Imagine the thrill of walking into your classroom and seeing Jackson Pollock’s “Mural” every day. That was the lucky reality for the students in this 1952 archival image of a studio at the University of Iowa, where the painting hung for several years, until it was moved into the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art which opened in 1969.
