With over four decades in practice as a podiatrist, David J. Kaplan, DPM, is an expert in diagnosing and treating ailments that affect the foot and ankle. He welcomes new and existing patients to FootCare Specialists, Inc. in San Mateo and Half Moon Bay, California.
Dr. Kaplan earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (now part of Kent State University) in Cleveland. He went on to complete a comprehensive foot and ankle residency program in the Detroit area at the former Memorial Hospital in Warren, Michigan. Dr. Kaplan then became the director of the podiatric residency program at Sidney A. Sumby Memorial Hospital in River Rouge, Michigan.
Because providing the latest research-driven treatments is important to Dr. Kaplan, he continues his education through ongoing courses and training. Dr. Kaplan maintains his board certification through the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He holds professional memberships with the American Podiatric Medical Association and the California Podiatric Medical Association. In addition, Dr. Kaplan is a Diplomate of the National Board of Podiatry Examiners and a Qualified Medical Examiner for the State of California.
As the chief podiatrist and owner of FootCare Specialists, Inc., Dr. Kaplan helps patients who suffer from acute injuries, common ailments, and complex conditions that affect the lower extremities. He has advanced training and experience in medical lasers, wound care, diabetic foot management, and modern minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Kaplan is a trusted and highly regarded podiatric surgeon and has lectured nationally on laser surgery and physics. He’s on staff at several hospitals including Mills-Peninsula Medical Center in Burlingame, ABJ Surgery Center in San Mateo, and Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City.
