With all that's going on in the world, it is sometimes hard for us to keep a positive focus on our lives. Maybe we can all glean a little wisdom from an old pop tune many of us may have sung in our youth. Learn more in this edition of Reflections. FORESTLAWN.COM Accentuate the Positive
Located at Forest Lawn - Covina Hills, this image shows "The Creation of the Sun, Moon, and Plants," which is a scene from the Sistine Chapel ceiling. On the left, God is shown flying above the land and gesturing toward plants. On the right, God hovers between the sun and the moon. This was one of the final scenes that Michelangelo painted on the Sistine ceiling. As his work progressed across the ceiling, his figures were imbued with increasing levels of movement. The mosaic was executed in Pietrasanta, Italy. It was installed in 1975 along with other scenes from the Sistine Chapel.
We honor and remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933-2020) for her 27 years of service on the United States Supreme Court.
We know things look a little different, but many things remain the same: the warm welcome, the loving compassion, and the caring dedication for the families we serve.
Check out this gorgeous watercolor from our upcoming exhibition, “Judson Studios: Stained Glass from Gothic to Street Style.” The artwork is part of a three-part suite of preparatory drawings, intended for round windows or roundels, which were designed c.1920. A note at the bottom right states, “ALL BORDERS LIKE THIS ONE,” which was a time-saving message from the watercolor artist to other members of the studio. Although the border here is only partially complete, it gives an indication of the decorative Beaux-Arts-style stained glass intended for the windows. Due to state and county regulations, indoor museums remain closed until further notice. We hope to open the exhibition this fall, but exact dates are still TBD.

The title of this artwork – Sangre Nueva or New Blood – implies life, rebirth, and resiliency. . Due to state and county regulations, indoor museums remain closed until further notice. We hope to open our exhibition -- Judson Studios: Stained Glass from Gothic to Street Style -- later this year, but exact dates are still TBD. EL MAC Sangre Nueva Stained Glass 2015

The original was painted c.1507 and is on display in the Uffizi Galleries in Florence. The colors of the original painting are striking, and they're equally stunning in the mosaic.
