Home Energy Auditing
The average home in the United States exchanges all of it's air every 1-3 hours. When the mercury drops, that's a LOT of cold air to warm all the way from zero to 65 or 70 degrees, (and hopefully you won't have to feel it on your ankles before it warms up.
Every cubic centimeter of air that is lost must be replaced by frigid outside air in winter. Insulation
Choosing the right insulation for the right area and purpose can help in reducing air loss, by providing an air barrier; reducing heat loss, by providing higher thermal protection levels; and may reduce drafts, noise, pest harborage, and other benefits, when compared to other types of insulation which are commonly used. Geothermal Basement System (GBS)
Typically 25% of all heat energy lost in a home is lost in the basement, via the walls, as it radiates and leaks from basement ducts, pipes, and appliances.
Homes with unfinished or partly finished basements, can utilize a GBS to preserve 80% of this waste heat, and to glean heat from the earth via the basement walls. Unlike expensive geothermal systems, this system requires no trenching outside, and can be installed at approximately 10% of the cost of conventional geothermal systems.
