Outdoor Play lowers the risk of becoming nearsighted. You can preserve your kids’ vision even as screen-time becomes a bigger part of their lives. No special glasses required. A study looked at kids spending 40 extra minutes outdoors each day, lowered their risk of getting myopia or more severe myopia (stronger prescription/eyeglasses). The kids who spent more time indoors (reading or on their computer devices) were more likely to get myopia or severe myopia. What Causes Floaters?? Most are small flecks of protein called collagen. They’re part of a gel-like substance in the back of our eyes called vitreous. As we age, the protein fibers that make up the vitreous shrink down to little shreds and float in the back of the eye. A sudden onset of new or increased floaters, flashes of light or a shadow in the visual field require prompt evaluation. Louis Braille was born on January 4, 1809. We celebrate his life and legacy. He lost his sight at the age of 3 from an eye injury. When he was 13, he learned that soldiers send messages to each other at night without needing light or having to talk by punching dots and dashes into heavy paper. He spent most of his free time learning the system and how to simplify it, add numbers and punctuation. After two years of work, Louis finally created a new code.
