We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend Eileen Abe in March earlier this year.
Eileen was a gentle woman of the first order: Caring, unassuming, a great listener, helpful, organized and a superb craftperson. We met her in 2013 when we did a story on a Hawaiian Doggie Wedding between her dog Roo and her foster dog Boo Boo. It was a collaboration of local businesses and pet professionals that benefited Italian Greyhound Rescue Hawaii, and a fine time was had by all!

Voters in Denver, CO, ended the city’s 31-year ban on owning pit bulls by passing ballot Measure 2J. Pit bulls have been banned in Denver since 1989 after 20 people were attacked in the span of 5 years. However, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says there is no evidence that breed-specific laws make communities safer. Since it passed, enforcing Denver’s pit bull ban has cost the city more than $5.8 million. The new law allows people to own pit bulls as long as they apply for a license, register them, get the dogs microchipped, spayed or neutered, and provide emergency contacts. If a pit bull has no incidents after 3 years, the owner can then apply for a regular dog license.
