Floating shelves are part of almost every remodel today. Some are strictly decorative in nature (holding very little weight) while others are built to hold larger amount of weight such as plates, glassware and books. Pictured here are 2-1/2" solid wood stained walnut floating shelves. They have been made as a single L-shape piece for each shelf. These Grothouse custom wood shelves have been mounted to handle a lot of weight (the brackets below the shelves are decorative). Tired of having shampoo bottles on the shower floor or tub ledge then consider adding a niche to your tub or shower. A recessed shelf area can be both functional and decorative. Here the niche is trimmed in ceramic edging, has decorative mosaic tile in the back and a glass shelf creating two shelves. The mosaic tile is color coordinated with the beveled subway tile. Since this is located above a tub we added a second small niche below for the soap.

Completed bathroom remodel for one of our Escondido customers. What a transformation, all new from floor to ceiling. The customer likes the Urban Ranch style design which is a upscale rustic feel. Her cabinets were done in rustic alder with a stained finish. Custom mirrors were done in the same material and finish. The shower walls are clad in an authentic wood-look plank tile that look spectacular.

The new go-to, low maintenance flooring that is taking the market by storm is Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring. Let me start by saying this is not your grandma's roll-out vinyl floor. It couldn't be any different.
It is a thick durable vinyl plank. It comes in individual pieces that are laid one at a time. Installation is similar to engineered wood planks. One of the benefits of the vinyl plank is that it is water proof (some versions are water resistant). It is also very durable so it can handle a lot of foot traffic, kids playing and toys, and pets.
But without a doubt one of its best features are that it looks great. The planks look just like wood floors. It can come in varying widths and color shade variations for plank to plank. From a price point for both material and installation it is very affordable. Most come with 25 year to lifetime warranties.

Just finished a beautiful San Marcos kitchen remodel. From a closed in kitchen with limited storage space to open and a lot more cabinets. Removed the non-bearing wall between the dining room and kitchen and extended the cabinets along the refrigerator wall. Added a counter bar for extra seating. A much needed improvement; the customer is thrilled.

Adding detail to your kitchen remodel can make all the difference in the end. Here I want to share something that we are doing with a kitchen remodel using modern style cabinet (flat panel doors, vertical grain, textured thermofoil material). I am using black metal for accents at the tile splash and cabinet hardware, and because the u-shaped island is very large I wanted to add some additional accents there to break up the long run of cabinets.
So at the back sides custom strips were added in black. They are hardwood maple cut to uniform sizes and painted a glossy black to mimic metal. Then they are inserted between the back panels which were evenly sized based on my specifications. The end result looks great and maintains the color scheme.

Another cabinet installation day for a kitchen remodel. This Escondido customer is getting his new kitchen with Gale blue base cabinets and Magnolia white upper cabinets. He opted for a couple of floating shelves in the corner to the left of the window. Can't wait to see it all come together. Another day of cabinet install and we should be ready for the countertop template.

No more wasted space. This often hard to reach cabinet over the refrigerator now has a better purpose - for storage of cookie sheets, cutting boards and trays. The cabinet is 24" deep so most trays and sheets will fit, plus they are adjustable. In this case they are evenly spaced, but you can locate them as desired. No more wasted space in lower cabinets.

Kitchen sinks are kind of a big deal since we spend so much time in the kitchen. One of the hottest items today is the single bowl sink. They offer more room to wash pots, pans, casserole dishes since there is no middle divider. They are also 2" to 3" deeper than the older style sinks. One of my favorite styles is made from a granite composite material - durable and stylish.
The one featured in my latest kitchen remodel is an undermount single bowl sink by TruGranite in the color Slate. At a generous 30" wide some of my customers have referred to it as the 'Baby Bathing Sink". These kitchen sinks come in a variety of colors so you can coordinate with your newly remodeled kitchen color scheme.

Lots of storage in the beautiful laundry room. Magnolia white cabinets accented with Celeste blue w/d base and floating shelves. The quartz countertop is a deep blue from Cambria called Hadley. A white subway style backsplash has been accented with blue and white mosaics from the floor tile (sorry, it is currently covered with construction paper for protection as the project wraps up). Brighten up your laundry area, make it a room you like to be in.

Another great day. Day 2 of tile installation continues. The interior received a modern update a few months ago. Now its time to work on the outside. The 12x24 Cassero black tile, kind of looks a little like black concrete, is being installed in a horizontal pattern in two areas at the front of the house. Windows and edges are being trimmed in satin nickel metal. Can't wait to see it progress.
