John's Story: Spinal Cavernous Malformation Recovery
Gaylord Specialty Healthcare
September 2 at 5:26 PM ·
JOHN'S STORY: John Hopkins was diagnosed with a cavernous malformation in his spinal column in 2017. In the spring of 2020, he began experiencing more problems. John's surgeon in NYC performed surgery on March 10, 2020, just as COVID-19 was beginning to hit the city hard. Being hospitalized during that time was stressful and after the initial surgery, John began to have complications that necessitated a second surgery. A close friend did research and found Gaylord for the next step in John's care. After several months at Gaylord, making steady progress, John went home to continue his recovery. An avid athlete and adventure-sports enthusiast, he is determined to get back to mountain climbing. #gaylordstrong

📢 2021 CAF Grant Announcement 📢
CAF has seen firsthand the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our athletes and their sport and fitness endeavors. Despite the uncertainty of what the next year holds, CAF’s mission remains unchanged. In an effort to best meet the needs of our community, we have made the decision to push back the opening of the 2021 grant cycle by one month.
The 2021 CAF Grant Application will be available on the CAF website on Thursday, October 1st, 2020 and it will close on Monday, November 30th. We anticipate no changes to the March 2021 grant distribution date. It is our hope that by pushing back the application start date, applicants will have more time to determine what their needs are for a CAF grant during this uniquely challenging time.
For more information on the grant application, including eligibility and documentation requirements, 2021 grant cycle timeline, and FAQs, please refer to our website: www.challengedathletes.org/grants, or email us at cafgrants@challengedathletes.org
