The Columbia County Sheriff's Office would like to take this opportunity to warn the public regarding a new identity theft scam involving Amazon.
Please take a look at the attached photo. People have been receiving these letters by both regular and e-mail, indicating that a hold has been placed on your account and all pending orders until such time as billing information can be verified.
Unsuspecting people will tap on the link, which directs you to a website that looks like it's Amazon, but in reality it's a data mining site that steals your identity in order to secure mail order merchandise under your name and bank account.
Don't fall for this! If you have questions or real concerns about your Amazon account, contact Amazon directly through known and trusted links, and not through links provided in e-mails or text messages.

End Daylight Saving Time and stay on Standard Time | We the People: Your Voice in Our Government
This Saturday (Oct 31st) we “fall back” one hour and next Spring, we’ll “Spring Forward” one hour.
Studies have shown the annual “spring forward” and “fall back” doesn’t produce any savings of any kind. Studies have shown the gaining and loosing an hour does cause an uptick in car accidents and heart attacks, loss in productivity and billions lost by the airline and shipping industries.
Most of the world has dropped Daylight Saving Time (DST) and just stick with Standard Time. Washington State passed legislation to stay on permanent DST. However, per Federal law, they need approval from congress. Any State can drop out of DST and stay on Standard Time without the approval from Congress but not the other way around.
There is a movement to shrink the four time zones in the United States down to two. Pacific Time would advance one hour and Eastern Time Zone would fall back an hour to Central Time and drop DST completely. This would make air travel and the shipping and airline industries run smoother and calling across the country easier.
