I have been performing bunion surgeries almost every week of my life since 2012. No two bunions are the same; bunion surgeries vary widely and are one of the more difficulty surgeries to perform correctly while ALSO maintaining 100% patient satisfaction. The LapiPlasty system by Treace Medical Concepts is the latest and in my opinion the greatest technique and surgical system for fixing about 75% of all bunions that I see in my office as a podiatrist. As long as there is little to no arthritis in the big toe joint, this procedure is the way to go in correcting bunions from mild to severe. I recently attended a training course and am set to attend another such course in 2 weeks. I will then begin performing this procedure on most of my bunion patients. The biggest complications are: pain, welling, numbness, and stiffness of the toe. Risks and complications should always be weighed against the benefits of such a surgery. Luckily this surgery can be done outpatient under light anesthesia. Luckily recovery is fairly quick and it allows the patient to walk immediately in a protective shoe! visit www.gelbmannpodiatry.com to learn more Image may contain: one or more people and text No photo description available.
LisFranc Injuries
So I had this patient on Wednesday: 28 year old gentleman working on restoring artwork was standing on a 5 foot ladder when he slipped and fell to the floor. He felt immediate swelling and pain to the left foot and could not bear weight. Rush ER gave him a compression wrap, Ibuprofen and diagnosed him with a LisFranc joint dislocation based on non weight bearing x-ray of the left foot. No other injuries. I treated him with a Jones Compression dressing, a tall CAM boot to immobilize the foot, I made him non weight-bearing, and ordered a STAT CT scan (basically a 3-D xray) to determine both need for surgery and type of surgery that may be needed.. Typically we perform closed reduction and percutaneous screw fixation (minimal incision) of these acute injuries. LEARN MORE ABOUT LISFRANC JOINT INJURIES of the midfoot: These painful and scary injuries occur with high energy trauma to the midfoot, like what occurs when we fall off of a ladder, are involved in an auto accident. It can also occur to diabetic patients or those with severe peripheral neuropathy as part of something called Charcot foot. If you have had nagging pain in the middle of your foot accompanied by discoloration, swelling, and possibly even numbness of part of your foot, see your local podiatrist and have your foot x-ray and evaluated. a CT scan will also confirm this diagnosis. Greetings Facebook friends and followers, On May 15th, 2019 I officially became the proud owner of the 1440 South Michigan Avenue podiatry office then known as European Foot and Ankle Clinic. While I have been practicing podiatric medicine at this location since 2016, it was not until this date that I became the proud owner. I have renamed the office "Gelbmann Podiatry," which has been incorporated since 2016. My main goal as owner of Gelbmann Podiatry is to offer a better brand of foot and ankle care to the people of Chicago and beyond. I have performed surgery at over 20 hospitals, worked with hundreds of fellow orthopedic and podiatric physicians and surgeons, and treated tens of thousands of patients in my career. This experience has helped me learn just how to reach every patient with my words and of course with my medical care. With practice ownership I hope to bring my experience to the next level. More importantly I hope to use my knowledge and experience to improve the lives of as many patients as possible. If you suffer from any kind of ailment or pathology of the lower extremity: foot, ankle, leg, please reach out to me via Facebook or by calling my office: (312) 880-0067. Don't be shy! If I cannot help you, I will send you to somebody who can. Best wishes, Dr. David Gelbmann, DPM Owner and operator of Gelbmann Podiatry Inc. Serving Chicagoland since 2016
