The cold weather is here & our friendly and trained staff is ready to help with any of your heating needs. Give us a call today!
Tip of the day:
If you’re the owner of a heat pump, as winter and the cold weather arrives to stay, make sure to watch your outdoor coil for freezing. Your unit may freeze up and have a “frosty” look to it. Watch it for 90 minutes. Your unit’s defrost should thaw it within that time frame.
If your unit stays frozen after that time period, a trained HVAC professional will be needed to prevent your utility bill from sky-rocketing or from your unit stopping altogether.
We've been proudly serving the tri-state area since 1968! Let us help you with any of your HVAC needs by calling us today and continuing that tradition.
Our office will be closed this Thursday and Friday - December 24th and 25th. We hope all of you have a healthy and ‘Merry Christmas!’
A good reminder during this melting and re-freezing cycle.

If you have a heat pump, your outdoor unit may be in serious danger from damaging ice!
Large amounts of snow and ice have accumulated on every roof in the area recently. As the temperature hoovers around the freezing point, the snow that is melting from these roofs could run water directly onto your heat pump and re-freeze. Ice may completely cover the top of a heat pump and either make the fan inoperable or cause it to shake violently.
If your heat pump is in a location where it will be affected by the thawing ice and snow, we are recommending that you switch your system to "Emergency Heat" until this condition passes!
In the "Emergency Heat" mode the outdoor unit will not operate and your system will use its back-up heat as the sole heating source.
If you are unsure whether or not your heat pump* will be affected, follow these 2 steps:
1. Check the location of your outdoor unit. If it is directly under ice-filled gutters then it will likely be affected by the run-off caused by melting.
2. Look at the top of the unit to see if snow or ice has already accumulated on the fan discharge or the fan blades.
Any ice accumulation can have harmful effects on your heat pump!
* This warning is for heat pumps only. Air conditioning units should not be a concern.

Who are we?
We are a company that wants to provide the BEST for our customers. Our professional service technicians are trained to FIX rather than sell. You will never be sold a unit or system by a General Heating & Air service technician!
You can trust that if you schedule a service call with us, we will do ALL that we can to help you and your HVAC system.
ATTENTION HEAT PUMP OWNERS:
Here is a video sent in by one of our service technicians earlier in the day. This unit has ice on the fan blades.
If you hear a noise similar to this, it is advised that you turn your thermostat to the EMERGENCY HEAT setting to let the fan blades thaw while still keeping you warm!
What do you do when you don’t have a scraper on hand, but DO have a forklift, a sheet-metal shop, and a talented sheet-metal man?
You BUILD your own!
We’re very lucky to have extremely talented individuals like this one at GHAC!
2021 has been a tough year so far! Our main concern and hope is that everybody affected by this flooding stays safe. We also want to help and assist with heating and cooling issues at this time, especially for those directly dealing with the flooding.
For people whose homes are dealing with high waters either reaching their outdoor unit and/or the indoor unit, TURN OFF the breaker supplying power to that unit!
Once the flooding recedes, we RECOMMEND scheduling a service call so that our service technicians can clean the unit(s), check electrical connections and ensure the refrigerant piping hasn't been compromised, among other things.
We will work with you and give you the BEST options no matter the scale of the damage.
If you have any questions or concerns, give us a call today at 606-836-8143
