Men have breast tissue that develops in the same way and is susceptible to cancer in the same way as breast tissue in women. Breast cancer in men is considered rare because male breasts have ducts that are less developed and are not exposed to growth-promoting female hormones. According to The American Cancer Society, 1 in 833 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The risk of breast cancer increases with age with most men diagnosed between the ages of 60 and 70.

Did you know? Probiotic bacteria colonize the digestive tract with adequate amounts and types of good bacteria. This helps normalize bowel function. Good bacteria can also stick to the walls of the digestive tract and form a protective layer. Probiotics may play a role in immune function, too. Research suggests that probiotics stimulate innate immune functions in the lining of the digestive tract and increase cytokines, substances that help regulate immune cells.

A colonoscopy is a procedure that allows the doctor to view the inner lining of the large intestine (rectum and colon). With the use of a very thin flexible tube, the specialist is able to check for cancer or precancerous growths (polyps) in the colon or rectum, as well as find ulcers, tumors and areas of inflammation or bleeding. During a colonoscopy, tissue samples can be collected for biopsy and any abnormal growths can be removed.
