F/V Miss Pacific Fire Repair and Restoration
https://giddingsboatworks.com/f-v-miss-pacific/
The F/V Miss Pacific, is a local vessel here on the coast, it is owned by a rather large fishing company here in Oregon. The vessel had been ready to go fishing when it was sitting at the dock in Brookings Oregon.
Before leaving the vessel had a fire in the back of the house, before too long the fire ran out of control. The crew gets off the vessel and the fire continues to burn for hours on end. Once the fire had been put out a few weeks later the vessel had been towed to Giddings Boat Works in Charleston, Oregon.
We met with the owners and walked through their vision of how the boat should be repaired. After our meeting with the owners, Giddings sat down and started to plan how the repairs would be scheduled and completed.
First we needed to remove all of the burned items from the fire, from the nets that were melted to the deck to the burned remains of the pilothouse, galley and state rooms. This was a huge undertaking.
We ordered a dumpster and got to work removing all of the burned equipment. We had a few pictures of what the boat looked like beforehand and several of the other boats that this company owns are very similar. We began to order parts and started cutting off the burned steel house.
We installed the new steel house and from this point all that you see in the video has been completed by us, from the new wires to the carpentry. Now this type of job is 100% directed by the owner, a lot of personal touches are in place. they tell us how they want it to look and we make that a reality.

Gidding’s Boatworks welcomes the F/V Aleutian Ballad all the way from Alaska for some much needed TLC!
The Aleutian Ballad’s visit this year will be a rather large project for the team here at GBW. We will be installing a new 50 horsepower dual blade Wesmar Bow Thruster and tube inserted into the FWD Hull.
We are are also installing two new Fernstrum Main Engine Keel and Cofferdam mounts on the inside of the engine room along with new piping systems from the Main Engine to the cofferdams and keel coolers.
We have removed all of the fuel from the vessel and gas freed all of the vessel’s tanks. Giddings will remove fourteen manhole hatches on the main deck. some will be inserted and some will receive new hatches.
Giddings is in the process of blasting the bottom underwater hull and will paint five coats to finish. Giddings will blast the entire Main deck and finish it out with four coats of paint.
The entire hydraulic system on the Main deck will be replaced with new piping. Giddings will make the needed repairs to the hull if any steel is to be renewed.
Giddings has been working day in and out with the United States Coast Guard to make this project happen. We will keep you posted as a project unfolds.

Aleutian Ballad Haul Out Update 2020
https://giddingsboatworks.com/f-v-aleutian-ballad-haul-out-update-2020/
Here is an update to the work performed on the Aleutian Ballad. We have installed a new 50 horsepower dual blade Wesmar Bow Thruster and tube inserted into the FWD Hull.
We have installed two new Fernstrum Main Engine Keel and Cofferdam mounts on the inside of the engine room along with new piping systems from the Main Engine to the cofferdams and keel coolers.
The cofferdams are rather large, they are 18″ pipe with new cooling pipes from the Main Engines with valves to the cofferdam/keel coolers. We needed to remove all of the fuel from the vessel and we gas freed all of the vessel’s tanks by pressure washing the insides.
We removed fourteen manhole hatches on the main deck. some will be inserted and some will receive new hatches, a good bit of steel work. Giddings has sandblasted the bottom underwater hull and installed five coats of paint One 302 Inorganic zinc, two Anti corrosives and two Anti fouling for the bottom hull.
Giddings has blasted the entire Main deck down to the keel , this is a very large undertaking which approximately takes two to three weeks of labor every day from 3 or 4 employees, masking off to protect important areas. The lower bottom hull receives 5 coats of paint that is 25 to 35 or more gallons a coat of paint per coat.
The upper and Main deck only receive 4 coats of paint, one inorganic 302 Zinc, two Anti corrosives and one finish topcoat. The entire hydraulic system on the Main deck has renewed with new piping along.
The fire main system has been replaced on the main deck with stainless steel piping. Giddings will make any needed repairs to the hull if any steel is to be renewed. Giddings has hired a local electrical firm to install the new wires and to hook up the bow thrusters motor, the firm will complete the hook up and install with the USCG oversight.
Giddings has been working daily with the vessel’s engineer and the United States coast Guard to ensure the project goes on without any issues. The vessel owner is doing some of his own work like replacing the wood deck that you walk on, this is called a false deck because the real steel deck is around one foot below the wood deck.

We got her Saturday morning good job
https://giddingsboatworks.com/haul-out-and-painting-for-fishing-vessel-chellissa/
#HaulOutPaintingFishingVesselChellissa
The Chellissa has quite a story that starts here at Giddings Boats going back to the 1970’s. It turns out this vessel a very long time ago rolled over not far from here and had to be taken to Coos Bay and rolled back over.
After that it had to be brought back to Giddings Boat Works where Don Giddings made the repairs. Over the years it has had a couple of owners. The vessel did not look like it does today, it has been sponsored twice. That just a little history on the F/V Chellissa.
We hauled the vessel out this time and pressure washed the growth off of it. We painted the Antifouling, changed the Anodes, fixed the rope cutter and installed a new zinc nut. We launched the vessel and placed the vessel at the dock.
The vessel owner wanted to install a new subfloor in the lower house, at the same time Giddings installed sound dampening latex between the subfloor to make the vessel more quiet.
Giddings also had been asked by the owner to install Stainless steel in the Forward fish hold. This is a serious undertaking and requires a lot of thought and labor by our team.
I wanted to say the Chellissa is a great boat and has a wonderful owner. He is a long time Giddings Boat Works customer and we enjoy working on his vessel.
Great job Ben King!

FV Western Hunter update
https://giddingsboatworks.com/f-v-western-hunter-repairs-and-maintenance-on-oregon-coast/
The Western hunter, this is the first time that we have had the vessel here, it is a slime eel vessel. We hauled the vessel out and the owner stated that he wanted the vessel fully blainted and painted minus the pilot house as it is fiberglass.
We started to blast the vessel and this took around a full week with two employees blasting every day. afterwards we had some spots on the hull that needed to be repaired, steel work that is. So we fixed the needed areas as requested and as most times we found a few more areas the owner wanted to address.
We fully reworked the Anchor windlass as it had frozen up and became unusable, now it is restored to its former glory. We plated both the Bow and Stern thruster tubes and filled them with boiled linseed oil. We plated the starboard aft fuel tank as it was in need of attention. we plated the stern/transom area as well as it was in need of attention.
We plated parts of the main aft deck and the fish hold coaming as they were also in need of repairs. please see the before and after you can see the amazing difference.

As this day comes to a close, I am thrilled to watch our boat untie and head north! It’s deck is loaded with 2 trucks, crab gear, salmon gear, all kinds of gear to be delivered to various vessels in Kodiak! I watched these guys and learned about patience, tenacity, humor, persistence and strength! We shared space, meals, grease and grime, stories and a virus,( cough due to cold) and they powered through! I have nothing but respect for each of them! Beaux is good at the hydraulics and welding, computers, and is doing a great job filling some big shoes as the men who have captained this boat are awe inspiring. He’s 3rd generation in the captains chair, and 4th generation fishermen. Paul Frizzell knows where everything is, and he’s our expert with wiring, plumbing, the engine room and good with a skill saw too. And he’s deck boss! I didn’t get a lot of time working with trey, but he’s a master wood crafter, and a dedicated crew member! My brother, captain mike is the catalyst! He makes the whole thing go. He has knowledge of every nuance of the entire vessel . he’s strong, and smart, . can fix just about anything and makes our family proud, and he whistles while he works. Huge gratitude to my mom and dad who had the vision to get this whole thing started! God has proven faithful again.
