The biggest cause of anxiety is the fear of things being out of our control. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that most things are out of our control. So what can we do about this? One of the ways to lessen that anxiety is by first accepting the things we cannot control, and then focusing in on the things we can: our thoughts, feelings, and actions. For example, you cannot control how COVID-19 impacts your job. But you CAN acknowledge the anxiety these uncertain times cause within you, talk to a friend or journal about your thoughts and feelings, and focus on practical actions that increase self-care. How are you going to focus on the things within your control today? * * * #control #anxiety #anxietymanagement #orlandocounseling #orlandocounselingservices #orlandotherapy #orlandotherapist #orlandocounselor #gilstrapcounseling #gilstrapandassociates #orlandomentalhealth

Reposted from one of counselors, Katie Thompson, LMFT: “If you’re ever in the office with me, chances are you’ve seen “the triangle.” It’s a great cognitive-behavioral tool to help us understand the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and patterns we fall into. When you can understand how these are related and find ways to intervene in the relationship when thoughts or behaviors are problematic, you can start to change the patterns you see. Scroll to see a simple example of how changing a thought can affect the cycle. Need help addressing the patterns you see? Or maybe you understand them and are now ready to dig deeper to understand where the thoughts come from. We’d love to help!”
