About

Transform your home with the beauty of wood, the warmth of carpet, the timeless artistry of ceramic tile, or the ease of maintenance of vinyl and laminate. You'll find everything you need to make your floors spectacular at Glover's Floor Coverings. And a warm and beautiful floor makes a warm and beautiful home. Please visit our large, up-to-date showroom and see our wide selection. We'll help you find the perfect floor at an affordable price, and then we'll take care of the entire installation. We've been part of the North Shore neighborhood for more than 60 years. Our first store stood on Main Street and was called "Carl & Glover". During the building boom of the late 40's and early 50's, we provided flooring and installation for many of Gloucester's new homes, and people developed a trust in the quality of our products, the professionalism of our installers, and the integrity of the people who ran the business. In 1974, as part of an urban renewal project in Gloucester, stores in many downtown districts were moved to other parts of the city, and the store now known as Glover's Floor Covering opened in its current location on Whittemore Street. Since then, we've expanded and renovated the store many times, and broadened our geographical range beyond Gloucester and Rockport to include Manchester, Magnolia, Essex, Ipswich, Beverly, Salem, Marblehead, Hamilton, Wenham, Ipswich, and many other local communities. Of course, like any community business, the ultimate secret to our success has been our loyal customers, who appreciate our efforts to provide high quality flooring and expert installation.

Did you know that the well-known Berber carpet originated in Berber culture of North Africa? During the Paleolithic era, these people used natural fibers to create hand-spun cloth for cloaks, rugs, and other fabrics.
One of the benefits of carpeting is that both the carpet and the padding add an extra layer of insulating material to your home. When buying carpet, keep in mind that the higher the density and weight of the carpet, the more thermally resistant and energy efficient it will be.
Olefin is a non-porous, synthetic fiber that is made from petroleum products and can be dyed into a variety of different colors. Olefin is stain-resistant and a common choice for carpeting, particularly in businesses.
For many apartment and house renters, light or white carpet can be a stressful discovery. If you’re planning to put your house on the rental market, you may want to consider choosing a darker shade of carpet so that your tenants will be less concerned about every little spill.
While rugs should be stored rolled around a support tube, if you ever need to store a rug, use a cardboard tube that is approved for use with rugs – or wrap a regular cardboard tube with acid-free tissue paper. Avoid using a PVC pipe for a tube as the chemicals in the pipe can damage the rug.
When shopping for carpet, be sure to set a budget. That way, we can show you the different options you have within your budget to explore for comfort. We also suggest taking samples of your top three choices home with you to make sure they work best with your surroundings.
What is one of the most popular types of woven pile rugs? Nepal weave rugs. These types of rugs have an extremely plush yet sculpted surface that is formed through various knotting techniques and is often used to display natural scenes, including flower bouquets.
No one knows the exact time carpets were first made; however, we know that carpets were made by nomads in Central Asia as a way to insulate their tents. For over centuries, carpet weaving was done across Asia and the Middle East.
How to tell if a rug is crafted to high standards? High-quality rugs will display patterns with clear distinct designs, the designs and colors can clearly be seen on the front and back of the rug, and, when examined closely, you should be able to see the small, tight knots that make up the rug.
When choosing carpet padding, remember that it’s important to match the padding to the type of carpet you plan to use. Generally, a 7/16-inch pad with six pounds of density per cubic feet is needed to support cut pile or loop carpeting, while Berber and thin loop carpets need a 3/8-inch pad with eight pounds of density per cubic feet.
Carpeting is not only an economical choice to cover the floors in your home, but it is inexpensive to install and can last for years with only routine maintenance. Let us show you how carpeting can fit your personal budget.
When choosing the color of your carpet, it might be helpful to know that a lighter carpet makes a room look larger while a darker carpet makes it look more small and intimate. Neutral colored carpets are a good choice for those of you who like to redecorate often.
Unfortunately, children aren’t known for their ability to walk and hold drinks or food at the same time. If you’re concerned that any flooring you install now will need replacement once they get older, you may want to opt for less expensive carpet now, and save the more expensive options for later.
With level loop pile carpet, even loops of yarn are woven into carpet backing at both ends. Due to the strength of the loops, these carpets are both durable and extremely track resistant, while preventing dirt from filtering into the carpet.
What's believed to be the oldest surviving carpet in the world is known as the Pazyryk Carpet, which is thought to be from central Asia and dates back to sometime between the 5th and 4th millennium B.C.
Keep in mind that, when you install wall-to-wall carpet, that carpet is going to become one of that room’s main focal points. Thus, it’s important that you pick a color and a texture that will fit your individual style.
If you’ve recently installed hardwood flooring in all the rooms of your home, you may already be regretting doing so in certain rooms. When you miss the feel of plush carpet under your feet when you step out of bed in the morning, we may be able to help with a custom solution.
Your carpet should be deep cleaned with a steam cleaner every 12 to 24 months. You can either hire a professional cleaner or clean it yourself by renting steam cleaning equipment, which are available in many grocery stores and rental stores.
One of the main factors that people consider when purchasing carpet is its color. Remember, darker shades tend to make a room feel warmer and cozier, while lighter shades can brighten a room and make it seem larger.
One of the most technologically advanced and durable types of carpet is needlefelt carpet, which is produced by the electrostatic attraction of single synthetic fibers. These carpets are most common in high-traffic areas such as hotels.
When choosing carpeting, it’s recommended you select the type that will fit best with your lifestyle. For instance, if you have young children or pets in the home, then you’re going to probably want to avoid hard-to-clean carpeting.
