Is there a woman in your life that exemplifies great strength and resiliency? Nominate her for the Women of Strength award presented during Golden House's Show of Strength event. Nominees will be honored on October 29th at Gather on Broadway! Due to COVID we will have a limited number of people in attendance but will be live streaming the event so you can tune in at home. Nominees demonstrate extraordinary fortitude, tenacity, courage, bravery or perseverance whether in their profession, home life or in their desire to make our community a better place. Those who nominate a Woman of Strength are encouraged to raise or sponsor $500 on their behalf, to continue the mission of Golden House. On a daily basis, Golden House provides security and programs for those working towards a life, free of domestic violence, in hopes of equipping them with the courage and strength our awards recipients showcase daily. If you are interested in nominating an outstanding woman, please visit bit.ly/SOS2020NominationForm.

Domestic violence affects more than just the victim. If there are children in the home, they often see, hear and know what is going on more than they lead on. An email was shared last week about gratitude from Big Life Journal. In the email it said "gratitude is a muscle. And we can help our children build this muscle and make it stronger by actively practicing it together." COVID-19 has affected everyone in some way, shape or form but practicing gratitude for what each of us have, is an amazing way to lift our spirits during this holiday season. Check out this video of some adorable children sharing what they are grateful for. Then consider watching this video with your kiddos, ask them what THEY are thankful for. Yesterday, we posted a link from One Love about unhealthy relationships. If you didn't see it, click on our page and find it! Today, we are sharing the link for healthy relationships. One Love says "A healthy relationship does not mean a “perfect” relationship, and no one is healthy 100% of the time!" If you were able to spend time with your children talking about unhealthy relationships yesterday, talk to them about healthy ones today. It is our hope that by providing prevention education, the younger generation has the ability to make good decisions and know when they need help. As a reminder, domestic violence doesn't just affect women and it doesn't just affect younger people. Domestic violence does not discriminate. If you feel like you might need help, please reach out to Golden House. Our services are offered 24/7, 365! JOINONELOVE.ORG 10 Signs of a Healthy Relationship - One Love Foundation

O'Connor Connective December 23 at 10:06 PM · The power of connections. We’ve long believed in them at O’Connor Connective. In fact, support of and connection to our community is why we do what we do. Here’s a recent example: For the past few months, our team has worked to provide strategic communication services to better position the Invest In Her Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to create a female friendly future. This week, Invest in Her Foundation surprised our team with a generous offer to make a gift to a nonprofit organization in the amount of $5,000 in O’Connor Connective’s name. We were honored. We chose to split the gift between two nonprofits that align with the Invest in Her Foundation mission and with our company value to connect the dots. Our selections are Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs in Appleton and Golden House in Green Bay—the latter of which is also a valued client of ours. Thanks to this gesture, our team will end 2020 living our purpose. We look forward to making more meaningful connections like this in 2021.

O'Connor Connective December 23, 2020 at 10:06 PM · The power of connections. Today is National Human Trafficking Awareness day. Often times human trafficking victims are also victims of domestic abuse. This horrific injustice can affect people of any ethnicity or background, and on this day we are all called to fight human trafficking wherever it exists.
Golden House is proud to partner with the local law enforcement who work hand in hand with us to help victims of domestic abuse find shelter and safety.

Golden House's Diversity and Inclusion committee, would like to kick off February with a little background around Black History Month from the Library of Congress: "National African American History Month had its origins in 1915 when historian and author Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. This organization is now known as the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Through this organization Dr. Woodson initiated the first Negro History Week in February 1926. Dr. Woodson selected the week in February that included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two key figures in the history of African Americans." "Lift Every Voice and Sing – often called “The Black National Anthem” – was written as a poem by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) and then set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson (1873-1954) in 1899." - from the NAACP website.
