There’s a saying ‘Don’t put your eggs in one basket.’ This is not a new idea to many people. It is a powerful concept that means we must allocate our funds in different investment vehicles so that in times of unexpected events, we will not experience a full force from a fall. How much you allocate to each asset class (ex. stock, mutual funds, bonds, UITF, cash) depends on your risk profile, time horizon and your goals.
