Often times home owners think they need to carry enough home insurance to cover the loan amount or what they paid for the house but that would be incorrect!! Your agent should always be running a Replacement Cost Estimate to determine the Rebuild cost of your home. Often time this can be less or more than the purchase price as purchase prices are based on market values, inventory levels, comparable sales etc which has little to do with Rebuild cost. Older homes require higher limits of coverage to rebuild than newer homes.
