We went out yesterday to get our first look at the damage to OR-224 east of Estacada after the Riverside Fire.
We went in with our geotechnical, maintenance, environmental teams, and couple guys from Oregon Forestry.
Lots of down trees and debris, a few landslides, lots of burned barriers, signs down, heavy smoke, and small fires still burning in the area.
Maintenance was methodically working to clear road all the way down the stretch.

Many people around the world will be celebrating Christmas, and in profoundly different ways. They will mark the holiday depending on their history, culture, their faith traditions and even individual family ways.
It's important to remember, however, that despite those differences, the meaning of the holiday is singular, it is clear, and it is embedded in the name itself. We are honoring the birth of Jesus, the Christ, Yahshua; God came (I am) to save.
Reflecting on the message He brought to the world:
Love all, regardless of their background, faith or lifestyle. Reach out to those at the margins, and to put the needs of others before our own. Don't worship material things, even religious things, but instead, focus on what really matters. To love one another.
And he told us to challenge injustice and to strive for fairness here on Earth.
So, in these very divided and divisive times where people have profoundly differing opinions about different churches, faith communities and even Christianity itself, it's absolutely OK. In fact, nothing could be more Christ-like than to reflect on our traditions, and to make sure they are still serving the common good.
By reflecting on the values that Christ himself lived by, shouldn't it be our hope that we can overcome the differences that push us apart, and instead learn to put love, kindness and generosity at the heart of everything we do?
Promising to continue to put values at the center of decision-making, not to let the ends justifying the means, nor profit before what is right and true.
And for those celebrating Christmas, we wish you peace, joy, and a reflective holiday.
