Deborah L. Chua, M.D. is board certified in gastroenterology, internal medicine and nutrition. She received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and earned her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Dr. Chua completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Weill Cornell-New York Presbyterian Hospital. After residency, she completed fellowship training in Clinical Nutrition at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Subsequently, she completed her fellowship training in Gastroenterology at New York University. During her fellowship training, she focused on the integration of nutrition education within the Gastroenterology Department by giving lectures on general and parenteral nutrition, obesity treatment and eating disorders. Additionally, she worked closely with the Bariatric Surgery Department studying the metabolic and hormonal changes after bariatric surgery.
Dr. Chua also has a strong interest in quality improvement in colorectal cancer screening. She developed a multi-language educational pamphlet for colonoscopy preparation at Bellevue Hospital, which led to significant improvement in colonoscopy preparation quality.
Dr. Chua’s clinical interests encompass all of gastroenterology, endoscopy and nutrition, with particular interest in colon cancer screening, women’s digestive health, acid reflux, obesity, malnutrition and nutrition-related diseases.
Dr. Chua is an attending physician at Lenox Hill Hospital and NYU Langone Medical Center.
Dr. Chua is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
