Although the Savannah Theatre opened its doors in 1818, the original building was damaged in several fires. After a major fire in 1948, the theatre was remodeled into its current art deco style. π

What We Did: A Weekend in Savannah, GA
This monument is not like the others! In Wright Square visitors may notice a large stone dedicated to Yamacraw chieftain Tomochichi. This fascinating figure is a unique example of peaceful relations between colonists and Native Americans. Tomochichi served as a mediator between local tribes and James Oglethorpe when Savannah was founded and maintained a long friendship with Oglethorpe.
π We are so proud of our drivers at Gray Line Savannah! In addition to skillfully navigating tight turns and pedestrian-dotted intersections, our guides deliver unscripted narratives as they tote visitors around our beautiful city. They always bring their own experiences and personalities into the tours and that's why they're so much fun! Choose a tour to see Savannah with one of our fabulous drivers π: https://rb.gy/fxxysx
Though Bonaventure Cemetery is a popular spot for visitors to Savannah, the Colonial Park Cemetery, set smack in the heart of Savannah's Historic District, was established in 1750 and contains over nine thousand graves. The stories of the residents of this park shed light on Savannah's rich (and often tragic) past.
Tree-huggers, here's a detour just for you! Our day excursion to the Historic Wormsloe Plantation includes a tour of the picturesque Isle of Hope. On the way, we'll swing by the Majestic Oak, believed to be at least 500 years old! The word, "majestic" doesn't even do it justice. π³

Savannah has not one but TWO forts: Old Fort Jackson (1812) and Fort Pulaski (1847), which thankfully did not see a whole lot of battle action, with the exception of a siege by Union forces, damaging of a section of Fort Pulaski and leading to surrender. A visit to a fort (or both) offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of a solider in the 1800's as well as an in depth lesson on advancements in military weapons.
π Spotted! Gray Line passengers having a fantastic time in Telfair Square over the weekend. PS If you're on the Explore Savannah Tour, make sure you take advantage of our free trolley to circle back to visit one or all of the Telfair museums: the Jepson Center, Telfair Academy and Owen Thomas House and Slave-Quarters.

Holy cow, Plant Riverside District! There's so much to see, eat and drink! Make sure you circle back to River Street with our complimentary shuttle after the Explore Savannah Tour for fun shenanigans at the newest addition to Savannah's downtown scene.
'π»Tis the season for spooky stories so here you go: The Foley House, off Chippewa Square, was built in 1896 and run by a wealthy widower, Honoria Foley. During a renovation in 1987, construction workers discovered a human skeleton buried within the walls, who is believed to be a boarder who mysteriously disappeared during his stay at the turn of the century. Ghost enthusiasts hypothesize he may not have been the most polite of guests or perhaps Honoria and cohorts wacked him to get their hands on his money. We'll never know! Following the renovation there have been sightings of a gentleman wearing a suit and top hat who Inn employees refer to as the guest. The lesson? Y'all leave a tip for the cleaning staff! π
π Considering supporting local businesses this week on Small Business Saturday? Hop on our Explore Savannah Tour, which is the only trolley tour in town including the Starland District, where creativity + design = unique gifts for everyone! π Hop on: https://rb.gy/0noqgp

πThough Savannah probably doesn't have quite as many pineapples in the historic district as Charleston, there are quite a few scattered throughout Savannah. In Colonial times the pineapple was considered a rare and exotic treat that only the wealthy could enjoy and now it has become a symbol of Southern hospitality. π
Since β€ loveβ€ is in the air, here's some love from a passenger on TripAdvisor about our Explore Savannah Tour and complimentary shuttle: "Our tour guide Joe was very friendly and knowledgeable and was very informative and made the experience memorable. Our shuttle driver Ritchie Rich ( yes that's his name) was exceptional. He was always ready to pick us up at any location . He was very personable... upbeat and outgoing. We hope to visit again and use their services."
