Never click on links in an email or pop-up that offer deep discounts. Visit the product's official website directly through your browser to double-check every offer. The principle of similarity suggests that we tend to like people who seem like us, and, in turn, we are much more likely to agree to a request from someone we like. The similarities can be anything from a shared interest in financial investments to shared personal characteristics.
Scammers take advantage of this and may try to find out things about you to appear like you. It could be as simple as asking for your date of birth and then mentioning that it’s theirs also. It can have the unconscious effect of making you more like them and then more likely to agree to their requests.

Have you heard of FOMO? It’s the fear of missing out, and fraudsters use it against people to lure them into their schemes. When the freedom to do something is threatened, people tend to react quickly to ensure they don’t miss out. Fraudsters may tell you that their offer is only valid until they put the phone down. The principle of scarcity suggests that people are more likely to be drawn to it. Hearing about this “next big thing” or “limited time offer” may make you feel like you simply can’t miss out on the opportunity.
