Dormant Seeding and Grass Seed Type
What makes our custom Dormant Seed blend different? We use a premium blend that features Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescues and has NO Rye.
By taking the Rye out of the blend, we better manage germination timing. This gives us the opportunity to increase the amount of Bluegrass which is ultimately what you want the majority of your lawn to consist of as it's a proven top performer.
The results? A nice and speedy green up! Grass seed will germinate the first chance it gets in Spring!
For all you leaf peepers out there :) Have a great weekend!

2020 Fall Foliage Peak Map: When Leaves Are Best In Connecticut
Fun fact Friday 🌱 >>>> Did you know that grass seed laid in dormancy (in the fall) can produce grass as much as half a month sooner than seeds laid in the spring?
This gives your grass a head start with suppressing weed growth and doesn’t require as much watering as Spring Seeding or Fall Seeding.
What are the differences between Fall Seeding and Dormant Seeding? While the processes are similar there are a couple major differences:
1. Fall Seeding's germination begins in Fall a couple weeks after seed is sowed. Dormant Seeding's germination begins in Spring at the first chance it gets when soil temperatures warm up.
2. Dormant Seeding requires less watering - as seeds lay dormant all winter long, it mimics Mother Nature's natural process. Winter's thaw provides seed with the moisture needed.

Please tell all your friends that if your lawn looks like this it is a phenomenon called "chilling injury". It does not happen often in the Northeast but after last weekends 26°F temps (and lower further inland) and an inch of snow cover, the turf all across New England was caught unawares. Plants are still alive and crowns look good but leaves were damaged. No one knows why chilling injury causes these funny patterns but it does. The turf most impacted is usually in the sun because it was actively growing and did not acclimate to cold temps fast enough. Shady turf was already working on going dormant. Some of this may recover this fall. Much of it may not. But plants should all make a good turnaround in the spring.
For all the do-it-your-selfers out there 💪🏼
