Griffin Accounting

www.griffinaccounting.com

Griffin Accounting started in 1997 when Terry Griffin began preparing tax returns at home for additional side income. As the referrals and requests for return preparation grew so did the business. In 2007 he began working full time from a home office, building the business as a full service accounting company, adding payroll, bookkeeping and tax planning to the mix.

As the business grew into a new office, Griffin Accounting remained driven to tailor services based on your needs and financial goals. We take pride in helping our clients be successful. We offer bookkeeping, accounting, tax preparation, audit representation and payroll services for our clients in Port Huron, MI.

COVID-19 update 5/13/2020 Somehow this seems like a weekly thing now. The governor still won’t let us see people face to face, so for now we are doing DROP OFF SERVICE ONLY. Please call when you get here; our number is on the door, we will come to your car and get it. We are currently calling past clients to see if 2019 taxes still need to be completed. Once we get an approval to see people again we will go back to normal appointments, but for now we are keeping everyone safe. REMINDER all deadlines are July 15th. But please don’t wait that long to finalize everything.
Trying to get ready for a May 1st "second season". Trying to do a 90 hour week in only 16 hours, has been challenging. Thanks for your patience. Hope to see you soon.

We care about our clients. We are currently in the process of making all offices and reception areas safer for you, by following MI OSHA guidelines. Also we are adding plexiglass, sanitizing stations, and air purifiers in ALL of our offices and reception areas. Our office has space for social distancing as well as as a new curbside check-in. We will be utilizing our portal once again this next season for NO TOUCH returns for those who prefer this method. We hope the best for you and your family and look forward to being of service to you.
IRS REVERSES COURSE AND NOW WILL BE REDIRECTING PAYMENTS TO PROPER ACCOUNTS The IRS released another statement late in the evening on 1.10.2021. Key information from this IRS statement: For those that have not yet received their EIP2 payment, there is a subset of payments that were directed to closed accounts – your payment may have been caught up in that group. The IRS will now be processing those payments so taxpayers will receive them by February 1st. • Your EIP2 stimulus payments will be processed by IRS and sent via your customer bank account or by check by February 1st based on the information you provided with your 2019 tax return. • Once payments are made by IRS, the Get My Payment tool on the IRS website will be updated to reflect the payment amount after February 1st. • Banks or tax preparers DO NOT have the funds – the US Treasury has the money and will be delivering it to taxpayers through the IRS process as stated above. Additional Detail: The IRS, in their expedited effort to get these payments out, issued many of the payments in error to bank accounts that had been closed. If funds are attempted to be deposited into closed bank accounts, the financial institution is required, by law, to reject those funds back to the treasury. Initially, the IRS communicated, given the volume of their error, that they would not be able to reissue these funds. They had asked consumers impacted by their error to claim the EIP Recovery Rebate Credit on their tax return. This would have delayed the delivery of EIP to many customers until the end of February, and software providers and banks as well as others in the industry found this solution unacceptable. We have been working tirelessly with the IRS to find another solution that will get funds to those that need it faster. As of yesterday afternoon the IRS has finally agreed to reprocess those payments that they deposited to closed bank accounts in error. The IRS has indicated that these payments would be reprocessed as soon as the IRS system goes officially live this tax season. We expect those payments to be processed by the end of January and begin to arrive in bank accounts or by check beginning February 1. This same group of taxpayers will therefore not need to file a credit on their tax return to get their EIP2 as was indicated earlier in the week. This decision to process these payments means that the IRS will take care of it for you and you do not need to do anything to get it. If you still have not received your funds by the time you have your taxes prepared, we will claim the EIP Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return. The IRS FAQs are updated regularly as this continues to unfold. So, this means if you had your fee taken from your return, you will receive a check or a debit card from the IRS.
