Is anyone missing a dog? Found off of Wetzell Ridge Road. He”s muddy and full of burs but very friendly. Has a green shock/ bark collar on. Owner was Found!

Last night we lost a precious soul to a bug called chagas beetle or the assassin beetle. There is no testing and at this time no preventative vaccines. Texa A&M is currently attempting to develop a vaccine. Many never heard of this beetle. It resembles a Stink bug but is black with reddish coloring on the edges. It likes to hide in and under things a pile of wood, bedding etc. it’s a night bug in which it only is found in dark areas. In order to become ill the dog must either eat the bug or eat the feces of the bug. This contains the larvae which attack multiple organs but primarily the heart. You will see no symptoms as it’s a silent killer. Your dog may be perfectly fine the one day and the next have gi upset that culminates into a rapid decline of the heart muscle causing atrial and ventricular muscle walls to stop functioning. Once that occurs there is nothing anyone can do.
I am so sad by what has happened that it rocks me to the core but I had to put this out for everyone to know.

Do you recognize this dog? A passerby called this afternoon when she spotted this dog chained to the electrical transformer at the railroad tracks on Townhall and Donation Road. He is a male Akita and had a harness on. It took some convincing and careful strategic thinking to unchain him and get him loaded up but he is now resting comfortably with us. Someone has to know this dog. It's evident that he has spent much time tied outside. Neighbors do not recognize him so we are hoping one of you do. Any information would be much appreciated. Prayers anf good vibes for this old dude are appreciated too!

Dog Poisoned by the Diffuser
Saturday night I got home late and my dog didn't recognize me. Being a nanny I thought I woke him up and he was having a night terror. Sunday, he was still acting weird. I realized that I had been running my new diffuser and decided to turn it off. Sunday afternoon, he was feeling better.
Today at work, my dog sitter said that he wouldn't come out from under the bed. It was very odd as he is a happy dog.
I came from work early and again, he was very confused about who I was.
So I took him to emergency vet.
It turns out that the tea tree oil I was using in the diffuser is toxic for dogs. Thankfully the test showed that his liver was ok but we weren't out of the woods yet. He was given fluids under his skin to get the toxins out.
The vet and the poison control are saying that they see these cases often now that the popularity of essential oil is growing.
Please make sure that the essential oils you are burning are not toxic for your pets.

***We need the public's help!***
The Erie Humane Society's Humane Officers are looking for the person(s) responsible for abandoning a mama cat & her approximate 4 week old kittens.
On Friday October 23, 2020 at approximately 11:40pm, a white or light colored SUV was witnessed on Rena Drive in Wesleyville, PA. This vehicle stopped in front of an abandoned trailer & an individual exited the vehicle wearing a headlamp, & placed a plastic tote in front of the abandoned trailer. This was captured on video camera.
After approximately 10 hours, after being outside overnight in the rain with temperatures dropping to 46 degrees Fahrenheit, the tote, which was taped closed & found lying on its side, was discovered & 6 kittens were found inside sitting in water, cold & soaking wet. The mama cat had squeezed her way out of the tote through a crack & was found nearby as she would not leave the area of her kittens.
We need your help. Someone knows this cat & her kittens. Please contact our Humane Officers at (814)835-8360 with any information.
