We are proud to be a part of the local effort to educate entry-level employees with our NYS DOL approved Certified Apprenticeship Carpentry Program. More than a dozen GypSys sponsored students have graduated from the program since it began in 2003.

Work continues at one of Gypsum System’s largest projects to date – 201 Ellicott in partnership with Ciminelli Real Estate Corporation and ARC Construction Management. More than 50 local carpenters are on site where we are responsible for installation of the entire shell of the building and also interior metal framing, insulation, drywall and interior trim.
**Get to know Gypsum Systems: Employee Spotlight**
Meet Ibrahim Kasama, Journeyman Carpenter. A dedicated and hard worker, Ibrahim has been with Gypsum Systems since June 2002.
His journey is an inspiring one to share! Born in Africa, civil unrest drove Ibrahim to the Ivory Coast where at 17, he stowed away on an boat carrying coffee beans across the Atlantic. Thinking the boat was traveling to the UK, he didn’t bring a large enough supply of food and water. Thus, Ibrahim arrived in the USA in very poor health. After claiming asylum, he made his way to Buffalo. Here he attended Grover Cleveland High before joining Gypsum Systems in 2002. Without any previous construction knowledge he successfully completed our (DOL approved 4-year carpentry) apprenticeship program. Gypsum Systems is proud to help cover some legal fees to keep Ibrahim in the US. He was able to achieve permanent residency about 5 years ago, and his goal to become a US citizen is now within reach. Today, Ibrahim lives in Cheektowaga with his loving family. He remains an avid sports fan, his favorites being bull riding and hockey. Ibrahim, you are an inspiration to us all!
