Installation in Hanson, Mass. yesterday. Water softener with "big blue" sediment pre-filter. Also a reverse osmosis drinking water purification system (top black manifold w/white housings with white storage tank above it) with a line running up to a dedicated faucet at the kitchen sink. System addressing hard water, sediment and a big upgrade to the purity of the drinking water (better than bottled). Nice, clean proper installation (install Carl D., assisted by Erick B, consult by David R.)

"We Don't Make the Water, We Make the Water Better!"
IT'S NATIONAL COFFEE DAY! But you can't take the day off. What's the #1 ingredient in coffee?...................you guessed it, water. So with that: It's best to use filtered water - or even bottled water (make sure it doesn't have a high mineral content, though). Filtered water and tap water typically taste different, particularly if your tap water contains chlorine or chloramines, which all public water supplies do. As a result they also affect the way your coffee tastes. These additives can dull the flavor provided by brewed coffee beans. Aside from taste, filtered water is also better for your health, as it contains fewer impurities.
ENJOY!

Home in Essex, Mass. with a large landscape was having water irrigation problems due to high iron (staining all surfaces in the yard) and high sediment clogging sprinkler heads. The system seen here very effectively took care of the problems. Homeowner also wanted to upgrade their drinking water as we installed a reverse osmosis purification system (partial view in upper left, 3 white canisters) running a line up to the kitchen sink and a separate dedicated faucet.

My house's only water source since 1987 has been from Water well, like most people in New England. Water filtration and Well maintenance is crucial to supply of clean, reliable, and safe water. The H2O Care, Inc team of Steve, Cindy, Matt and Bob did such an outstanding first class job from water Analysis, to water filter design, scheduling, professional spectacular installation and operation of system that I have not seen since 1987 any company in this field to provide. It is perhaps most important to also note, that H2O Care Inc. team has brought a total level of new professionalism to this field, that I had not witnessed for 35 + years. Great job Team and please keep pushing the envelope for best service and care for our American houses in the neighborhood. THANKS for treating our home like yours. Stay well and safe.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU TEST YOUR WELL WATER? WHAT SHOULD YOU TEST FOR? Often asked questions. The following link has much information on this topic. If you'd like to speak to someone in more depth about this, give us a call. We just got a call this morning from a real estate broker whose client is looking at buying a house that has a high level of arsenic. Somehow the sellers of the house didn't know and they have been drinking it, bathing in it, etc. for years. Not a good situation. One example why testing periodically is important.

GOT SEDIMENT???
Iron & manganese come in both dissolved and particulate form and are common in New England water supplies. Here is an example of heavy particulate evidence at a routine system maintenance in Hopkinton, Mass. These filters prevent the sediment from entering your water supply and protects your water softener or other filtration equipment while also protecting all water using appliances and providing cleaner water overall.

HOW TO REMOVE LEAD FROM DRINKING WATER
1. Reverse Osmosis membrane technology
2. Carbon filtration with micron rating small enough to grab lead.
3. Ion Exchange (water softener) - not recommended as softener is installed prior to piping which may contain solder joints, thus potential for lead leaching.
If you're not sure which is best for you, call or send us an email at 800-539-1100 or service@h2ocare.com

Most public water supplies add chlorine to the water at the treatment plant prior to releasing it downstream to the piping distribution system to prevent bacteria contamination before it gets to your home or business. For surface water supplies (reservoirs, etc.), dissolved organic material in the water can mix with this chlorine to form unintended byproducts, Trihalomethanes among the most prevalent and potential health threat. Your town's annual water quality report typically reports the levels found in their water testing. These byproducts can be effectively removed.

The main differences between Commercial & Residential water softeners is the size of the softening tanks and the brine tank with it, as well as piping. The technology is the same, however softening capacity much different. Some commercial applications, like hospitals, require 24/7 softened & filtered water due to the round the clock demand on water usage and the need to protect their mechanical systems from failure. The use of ozone technology in residential water treatment has not been available that long. It is an extremely powerful killer of bacteria and other potential pathogens in the water. Also very effective at eliminating stubborn odors in water supplies. The photo below was one of our installations of a twin softening system at a North Shore Hospital with this need.

If your water is supplied by your town or city, either chlorine or a compound known as chloramine is added to the water prior to sending it downstream from the central treatment plant. This is done to kill bacteria, viruses and other microbes in water. There are reasons why some towns have switched to chloramines and away from chlorine. See why in the article we had published in Water Quality Products magazine at the link below. (You can find out what your town uses in their Annual Water Quality Report)

IRON LIKE NEVER BEFORE! The link below is to an article written about our treatment of water in a large Athletic Facility in Southern New Hampshire a number of years ago. Nobody, including the state's health department had ever seen iron at this level and didn't think it could be corrected. Then we were hired and surprised many people. This was done when we were part of Atlas Water systems, prior to splitting off as H2o Care, Inc.
The water was essentially unusable. We were faced with an athletic facility housing workout rooms, an indoor soccer field, showers, a concession stand and more, and the water was so bad, no one could shower there (horrible orange staining all over). The owner supplied bottled water for drinking.

Many of you may have experienced a water quality issue related to Manganese in your water. Manganese is evidenced typically by black or dark brown staining, typically on fixtures, sometimes inside dishwashers and potentially as build-up inside your piping distributions system. At high levels, manganese can actually become toxic. Over the years, certain towns in our region have issued warnings to residents about levels of manganese that have exceeded EPA and/or State standards. Manganese can be found "in solution" or as particulate matter. See article we had published on this topic at link below:

A chemical, PFAS ( per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) has been showing up in wells around the country. These substances have been banned for decades now, but the after affects of having gotten into the ground as a byproduct of certain manufacturing processes (bad ones), has left us with somewhat of a mess. It is a removable substance with proper water filtration. We were inundated with calls in the winter of 2018 when the town of Hudson, Mass. found it in their public water supply. IF YOU HAVE A PRIVATE WELL, please consider having your water tested if its been a long time. Two contaminants we find in this region that are odorless and tasteless and impossible to determine from sight are radon & arsenic. While it isn't found often, it is not uncommon in the least. You don't want to find out you have these in your water supply years later. If you'd like assistance finding a reputable certified lab, we can help.

We sometimes recommend a twin water softener instead of a single tank softener. There are two main reasons why we would do this. One, extremely high iron levels which would not enable a single softener to "clean itself" properly in the backwash cycle. Secondly, a high water volume usage situation would not enable a single water softener to keep up with the water demand and keep it iron-free. For more, see a brochure of the system we really like and have had much success with over the years. at https://h2ocare.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/SmartChoice-Gen-II-iTwin-Brochure-h2o-1-29-2021.pdf

HARD WATER can do this to your piping distribution system over time if not addressed. This scale build-up can occur on hot water heater sensors, insulating them causing the system to work harder to meet the set temperature. This creates premature failure of these expensive systems. ARSENIC IN WATER? Yes, arsenic can get into well water and is a problem in certain areas of New England. Arsenic is odorless, tasteless and invisible. As a result, water testing is the only way to determine its existence. It can be removed from the water supply either at the point of entry coming into the home or just at desired "points of use".
