Nobody, including the state's health department had ever seen iron at this level and didn't think it could be corrected. Then we were hired and surprised many people. Many of you may have experienced a water quality issue related to Manganese in your water. Manganese is evidenced typically by black or dark brown staining, typically on fixtures, sometimes inside dishwashers and potentially as build-up inside your piping distributions system. A chemical, PFAS ( per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) has been showing up in wells around the country. These substances have been banned for decades now, but the after affects of having gotten into the ground as a byproduct of certain manufacturing processes (bad ones), has left us with somewhat of a mess. In 2019, the town of Hudson, MA residents were informed of actionable levels of PFAS chemical found in the public water supply. We sometimes recommend a twin water softener instead of a single tank softener. There are two main reasons why we would do this. One, extremely high iron levels which would not enable a single softener to "clean itself" properly in the backwash cycle. HARD WATER can do this to your piping distribution system over time if not addressed.
