Granite does not scratch, burn, or break. You can cut directly on it, put things on it straight from the oven or stove, drop something on it and not worry about breaking or shattering your countertop. Granite has the second highest hardness rating next to diamonds.
Natural & Organic: Granite is a green product that is cut directly from the earth with each piece having its own individual character and beauty.
Easy Maintenance: Just seal, soak (15 min), wipe, cure (overnight). This is preferably done annually.
More Healthy: Granite is not a petroleum product that is omitting invisible gases and toxins. Extremely low absorption rate for less germs and bacteria to be trapped on the countertop surfaces.
More Affordable: Granite is mined all over the world. However, it is pre-fabricated and finished(polished, cut, and edged) in one central location before shipping it to the final location. Also, because it is natural stone and not a petroleum product (corona, laminates, etc.) the cost does not fluctuate with oil prices.
Lasts a lifetime: Looks and feels permanent and substantial.
Adds To Your Home Value: Granite is in high demand by home buyers.
Granite Care/Maintenance
Sealing: The most important step in maintaining your new modular granite system is to seal it with a premium penetrating and impregnating sealer. This step is very important in that it helps resist oils and other staining material from damaging your granite. When selecting either one of these two types of sealers, make sure the brand you have chosen is formulated to provide maximum stain protection for granite products. This process should be complete on an as needed basis depending on its use or at least every five years.
Cleaning: Wash granite surface using a clean white rag with a few drops of neutral cleaner or mild liquid detergent and warm water. Rinse the surface thoroughly after washing then dry with a soft, clean, white terry cloth. Do not use any of the following things to clean your granite: scouring powders, abrasive creams, acids, grout cleaners, tub & tile cleaners, bleach, ammonia, lemon juice, wax-cleaners, or vinegar. These will diminish the surface polish and may remove any sealers applied.
Stain Removal: For soaked-in stains the use of poultice may be necessary. Follow manufacturers’ recommendation. The surface will need to be re-polished and re-sealed after this process.
Daily Care: Granite requires daily care for lifetime beauty and enjoyment. Clean up spills immediately. To remove soap scum, use a non-acidic soap scum remover. Daily dusting and cleaning with neutral cleaners as described in the cleaning section should be carefully followed and is recommended.
Installation Process
Underlayment: Install 3/4 inch thick suitable substrate on cabinets. Cut out opening for sink and other appliances.
Placement: Place prefabricated under-mount sink module in desired location. Then dry fit remaining pieces to determine the best layout. If possible, place seams in the center of a cutout. Lay the last piece down to be measured and cut.
Cutting the Product: Mark and cut the inside corners at a 45-degree angle from the point where the fabricated edge ends on the underside of each module piece. Dry fit pieces into place. Measure the width and length of the inside corner area. Take a modular piece and cut off the prefabricated edge, then cut to size. Measure and cut to fit the last piece. Install the under mount sink on the underlayment at this time.
Installation: Use a quarter size amount of construction adhesive on all corners and in the middle of the module. Place extra adhesive on pieces around the appliance and sink openings. Drop piece into place, pushing gently until secure. To level the installed pieces, use shims from underneath the underlayment until desired level is obtained.
Granite Seams: Place a strip of masking tape on both sides of the seam as close as possible. Use knife grade epoxy that has been pre-colored to fill the seam. With a putty knife work epoxy into seam until smooth. Immediately remove tape. Do not disturb the wet seam. Allow at least 5 minutes for the epoxy to cure.
