Partner, Matthew J. Rosen, Esq. has joined the New Jersey State Municipal Prosecutor's Association after having been appointed a Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Hoboken. Though he represents the State on behalf of the City of Hoboken, Mr. Rosen nevertheless remains in private practice, where he seeks each of his clients' best possible outcomes. Regarding the voter's resounding Yes to Question 1 in last night's election, the Attorney General, Gurbir S. Grewal, Esq., has issued the following guidance to all State and Municipal Prosecutors, of which Mr. Rosen is one. The possession of marijuana remains ILLEGAL in the State of New Jersey until further notice. We have been concerned by the wording of Question 1 from the outset, as it states that only regulated and taxed "cannabis" will eventually be legal. Given the election result, we urge the Legislature to move forward with a plan that addresses the criminality of unregulated marijuana and makes amends to the communities disproportionately impacted by the war on marijuana, which we hope would include, at the very least, PTI and Conditional Discharge eligibility reinstatement, automatic expungement, and a real conversation on how marijuana tax money can be used in urban education.
From the offices of Hammerman Rosen LLP, we want to wish each of our friends, families, clients, and colleagues a very happy and healthy holiday season. Should you need any legal services during the holiday season, we remain available through appointment, email, and virtual consultations!
We appreciate our clients, and we're glad it shows.
