The joint spacing we use when constructing concrete pathways adheres to industry standards and reflects the conditions of the geography of the course. We use standard spacing for expansion joints, which not only protect the path, but also makes makes repair and course maintenance easier.
When we lay down a new parking lot, the first step is to properly grade the entire area and then install drainage channels to keep water from pooling or from rushing into the streets and overwhelming the storm drain system.
Beautiful lot in downtown mansfield.

There are several aggregate property requirements that must be matched to your parking lot or commercial pavement’s requirements and needs in order to ensure optimal performance. This includes particle hardness, durability, shape, angularity, and texture.
Why is porous asphalt an ideal type of asphalt to use in areas where snow and ice are a concern? Because studies have shown that plain untreated porous asphalt performs the same as conventional asphalt treated with deicing chemicals.
Since water drains off asphalt pavement, achieving the proper drainage pitch is going to be critical. Basically, the pavement should have a slop from crown to edge (typically a quarter of an inch per foot).
The materials of state highways are selected by policy or economics, or both, when it comes to flexible or rigid pavement. Flexible pavement will need to be maintained every ten to fifteen years, while rigid pavement can last up to twenty or forty years without rehabilitation.
For greatest safety, proper grading along with the use of permeable asphalt means less water accumulation on the highways. Asphalt roads constructed using these approaches reduce hydroplaning and other water-related problems.
Did you know that proper paving of your driveway surface can in many cases improve the drainage of rain and melted snow around your property? This can be critical, as it can reduce or eliminate any flooding issues.
A beautiful day to clean trucks and equipment, this means the end of another great year. Thanks to all of our customers, distributors and our crew that worked so hard for us again this year. We were able to get through this crazy year and hopefully better days are around the corner! Thank you!
If your course has water or marshy areas, paved paths will keep carts out of the drink. With carts restricted to paths, golfers will not try to see how close they can get to the water’s edge when looking for a ball and then accidentally go rolling into the deep.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Hammett Asphalt family! We are so thankful for all of our supporters through 75 years!
The natural cycles of rain and sun can wreak havoc on an asphalt surface. While the water wears down the surface, the sun then acts as a catalyst and speeds up the drying process, eventually leading to surface cracks.
We are selling one of our dump trucks. Please feel free to reach out to us with a y questions. Thank you! https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/390304242240389/
Asphalt makes occasional appearances in the annals of history. For example, asphalt was used by the ancient Egyptians to embalm mummies. The Persian word for asphalt is "moom," which is related to the English word "mummy."
Even though you won't see it after the driveway's completed, one of the most important parts of a paved driveway is the base. This thick layer of aggregate stone takes all of the weight, and can be 6 to 8 inches thick.
Today, 96 percent of all paved roads and streets in the U.S., which is the equivalent of two million miles, are surfaced with asphalt. Almost all paving asphalt used today is obtained by processing crude oils.
A new asphalt pavement sealer colored a light gray is being tested for both commercial and residential use. Because the lighter color absorbs and retains less heat, it’s considered environmentally friendly and particularly desirable in areas with lots of sun and heat.
Some retirement communities purposefully cut access to all vehicles and create golf cart paths instead. This creates a different kind of environment for the residents and visitors. They are able to explore the development at 15 mph without the pressure of speeding cars.
To avoid unsightly indentations, avoid placing sharp or pointed objects like high heels, kickstands and ladders on your new driveway. Stay off your driveway for 2-3 days after installation and longer if temperatures reach 80 degrees or above.
Asphalt paving contributes significantly to noise reduction from tire traffic on roads and highways. Different asphalt blends are available that reduce noise-generating friction while still providing superior skid resistance.
Why resurface your company parking lot? Studies indicate clean, tidy and well-maintained entry roads and parking areas make a positive business impression on first-time visitors. And as the business adage says, you only have one chance to make a first impression.
For the first six months to a year after your new driveway is installed, we recommend alternating parking patterns (or rotating them, if you have multiple vehicles). This helps prevent low spots from forming in the asphalt.
In roadway pavement installation, often the pavement design will begin with a strong yet flexible bottom layer that will resist tensile strain caused by traffic. This is important, as it stops cracks from forming in the pavement and minimizes maintenance needs.
Did you know that early cars were remarkably sensitive to the elements than modern vehicles, with their open tops and fussy engines? This is one of the reasons why parking garages quickly emerged with the rise of the American automobile versus parking lots.
The United States produces about 550 tons of asphalt pavement every year, according to the National Asphalt Pavement Association. From asphalt plants to contractors handling individual projects, asphalt provides jobs for about 300,000 Americans.
An important part of any home is making sure the drainage is done properly, from the gutters to your lawns, and your driveway is no exception. A paving expert can make sure your driveway is set up for proper drainage so it doesn't get damaged later.
There are about 4,000 paving asphalt plants in the US. Every year they make between 500 and 550 million tons of tar. Which is a good thing, because in the US alone there are more than 2 million miles of asphalt-paved roads. And that's not including private roads or commercial parking lots.
If you’ve noticed that visitors to your golf course are fewer and further between than they used to be, it may be time to inspect your course. If you find crumbling or bumpy golf cart paths, it may be time to call in a paving contractor to help.
Keep in mind that crack filling should be done prior to any seal coating applications. If cracks are left unattended, water is able to penetrate to the base, which will soak and swell the limestone and eventually destroy its strength and load bearing capabilities.
