All of our slats have been rabbeted for our slat wall. Next we will run them through our drum sander and finish sanding them by hand. There’s a lot that goes into creating this slat wall but the end result is going to be awesome!!

I truly enjoy milling wood. It’s almost therapeutic when taking a rough cut stack of wood and milling them to consistent dimensions. I sometimes enjoy this process in woodworking more than I enjoy putting together whatever it is I’m milling the wood for. Call me crazy but it’s true.

Dropping our rebar cages in our drilled pier holes. The last few home builds we have done have had drilled piers. These seemed much easier compared to the last ones we did on a hillside though. We ended up with 68 total piers and it took 49 yards of concrete to fill them up.

On this travertine shower we decided to miter all the corners and then epoxy the seams for an overall cleaner look. It definitely wasn’t easy but we’ll worth the effort in my opinion.

We have a 15mil vapor barrier(stegowrap) that is under under the sand that you see. That vapor barrier runs up our foundation walls. Later we will spray closed cell foam from top of rat slab to bottom of floor sheathing to give us a conditioned crawl space.

We installed a Rat slab under our exterior decks. Is it Overkill? Possibly. Is it a Good idea? Definitely. We have expansive soil here on this property so my thought is to get the water down/out and away from the building as fast as possible. I don’t want to give the soil an opportunity to absorb that water and expand against the foundation. Especially since we have a sliding door that measures over 40’ that has extremely tight tolerances.

To answer the question from yesterday’s post. Those trenches are for our under slab sub-drainage system. We have the grid of perforated pipes on a 20’ spacing. You cant tell in the photo but each of those squares is like a pyramid sloping back to the pipes at the low point in the trenches. On top of that we add a min of 6” of class 2 permeable base. Then we add our vapor barrier and the slab on grade foundation on top of that.
