Harford Bank was chartered as a national banking association in April 27, 1964 under the name of Aberdeen National Bank and opened its doors to the public in May 1964. On December 8, 1980, Aberdeen National Bank legally changed its name to Harford National Bank in order to expand into other areas of Harford County, Maryland. On July 2, 2001, Harford National Bank converted to a Maryland-chartered bank and changed its name to Harford Bank. The bank continues to grow with six banking offices in Harford County, Maryland, and our most recent addition of a full service branch located in Cecil County Maryland. The Bank currently owns property in the Hickory area of Harford County for future branch expansion in 2010. The Bank is primarily focused on the financial needs of commercial business and retail banking individuals, as well as governmental units in Harford County, and neighboring communities. The Banks formation was motivated by the acquisition of the town?s only independent bank, First National Bank of Aberdeen, by the Baltimore-based Equitable Trust Company. The general consensus of the community was a desire to maintain an independent bank in Aberdeen which was owned and operated by members of the local community that demonstrated an understanding of the areas specific financial needs. In 1972, the bank moved its drive-in facility to Jones Lane and, in 1974, opened its first branch, in Joppatowne. Consistent and continued growth in the Consumer Loan Department created the need for a larger facility and in the spring of 1979, the Loan Department relocated to the former site of the New Theatre, next door to the Aberdeen branch. This facility housed the Loan Department and executive offices until 2001, at which time, the Loan Department moved to the Marketplace Office. A training area and more executive offices would occupy the space previously used by the Loan Department. The Bank?s name was changed to Harford National Bank to coincide with the opening of the new branch in Bel Air in December 1980. In 1985 a branch was opened in Havre de Grace, in 1991 a branch opened in Abingdon, and in 1999 the Bank opened its second branch in Bel Air on Marketplace Drive. In June of 2007, Harford Bank opened its seventh full service branch office in Elkton, Maryland. On July 2, 2001, Harford National Bank converted to a state charted bank and changed its name to Harford Bank. The Board of Directors decided to change the charter which meant the bank would be subjected to local regulators and they anticipated would yield significant savings in revenue by minimizing the annual fee expense paid to regulators. Presently the directors which are all Maryland residents include the following: John S. Karas, Chairman of the Board, Charles H. Jacobs, Jr., Tony L. Bennett, Carolyn Wilson Evans, Richard F. Foard, Jr., Franklin J. Hajek, Henry S. Holloway, Timothy N. Hopkins, Stephen K. Nolan, Joan A. Ryder, Talmadge E. Simons and C. Wayne Tapscott. Present Officers are: Charles H. Jacobs, Jr., President/CEO, Charlotte A. Mock, Executive Vice President/CFO, and Donald H. Young, Senior Vice President. Vice Presidents are as follows: Deron Brown, Scott H. Krieger, Sandra Osborn, Melody M Schlottman, Michael J. Sprouse, Scott Sturgill, Michael Tomaszewski, Ronald K. Walker, and Wendy Wells.
