There’s been a lot of talk about ice damming lately. This is actually caused by a loss of heat into your attic space, which, in turn heats up the underside of your roof decking and causes the snow to melt. Given the recent freezing temperatures, the melted snow then refreezes at your soffit/gutters and creates the ice dam, icicles (aka falling daggers of death), and possible water damage inside the home.
