A game changer?
Did you know that in the first 2 months of Covid19 we recorded 90,000 deaths in the U.S.
In any 2 month period non Covid19 we will record 70,00 Cardiac Arrest deaths. Why is this tragedy so unnoticed and misunderstood? As an instructor community we need to better educate people on the #1 cause of death in the US. The only solution is broader and better CPR Training.

The ultimate ultrasound-guided resuscitation... TEE view of chest compressions, and then defibrillation of a fibrillating heart.
EDIT: I certainly wasn't expecting this to be quite so popular 😆. Dr. Rafael Lima (http://twitter.com/DrECMO) is apparently the original source of this absolutely amazing clip, so go give him a follow if you're on Twitter!

THE UNKNOWN PANDEMIC
While we have all endured the horrific year of 2020 and the recent 1 year anniversary of the first diagnosed case of Covid19, we sadly account for over 400,000 deaths. What the public is generally much less aware of is another disease that in that same time period took over 350,000 lives.
I am talking about the #1 cause of death in the United States.....Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
While many mistakenly think of this as heart attack it is unrelated. We strive to get people to learn the difference. Heart attacks are very seldom a cause of Sudden Death and are highly treatable if recognized by individuals and then diagnosed in the emergency room. The trouble here, in brief, is the publics lack of recognition of a heart attack to where, when left unrecognized, results in someone having repeated attacks with each one expanding on the damage it does to the heart.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest on the other hand represents an electrical problem where the heart, instantly, stops pumping. The person suddenly collapses and is dead. Unless of course CPR begins immediately. CPR will keep oxygenated blood pumping to the victims brain until defibrillation can occur. If no CPR, the person will be irreversibly dead in 3-6 minutes. CPR can double or triple that window.
The problem is lack of CPR knowledge or proper training. CPR training is not 1 time or sufficient once every 2 years. Studies show that constant review and practice is required to keep oneself prepared for that emergency. 80% of out of hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrests occur in the home. Around 16,000 of the roughly 425,000 cases are under 18. Be prepared. LEARN CPR...BECOME A LIFESAVER.
