Zoom and captions: A colleague of mine spoke to the caption call rep. If you are struggling to understand your fellow Zoom participants you can get help! If you have the caption call app on their iPhone or ipad, you can use the dial into zoom meeting option to get a caption call operator onto the call. Perch the phone or tablet near the PC and voila captions. Attendees do have to mute and talk 1 at a time to keep the signal clear enough. Yes!!!
Mask wearing brings added challenges to people with hearing impairment. If you find you are struggling in today's masked days please call for a hearing exam. We want to help.

May Is Better Hearing and Speech Month
Dear Patient's, Physician's and friends-We have missed you! Are you ready to get back to life in our new normal? We are eager too-and ready to help.
One step at a time-together-we now begin rebuilding our lives and communities.
Being able to hear well is more important than ever. It has been the nature of this “stay at home” period that many have felt isolated. Impaired hearing may bring a sense of isolation even during the best of times. Now, it’s more important than ever to be able to maintain connections and healthy communications. Many people rely on lip reading more than they realize – until a mask is covering the other persons lips.
We know how to help. Be assured that we prioritize the health and well-being of our patients and our employees. During New York’s time on “pause” we have been preparing new procedures for the protection of patients and staff. Our office is following the guidance of CDC and the NY State Department of Health. We are focused on providing you top quality hearing care in a safety focused manner.
Appointments are being scheduled to prioritize safety. When appropriate we offer curbside service. In order to maintain social distancing, and to allow time for sanitizing between each visit, only one patient at a time is being admitted into our office. When you schedule your appointment, we will let you know what to expect. Things may be a bit different for a while, but one thing that won’t change is that you can count on us to for the highest quality hearing care – with a smile. We even have special transparent masks, so you can see the smile (and lip read, while we work to help you hear better 😊).
Please call 518-580-0080 for your appointment.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hearing aids and masks: many patients who wear over the hear hearing aids are finding they are getting tangled up with their masks or their ears are getting sore with so much "stuff" hanging on them. Here is an easy limited sewing solution. I used the hem of an old T-shirt and cut a 9" strip. At each end I sewed on a button. I can now loop my mask on the buttons and avoid any entanglement with hearing aids. Hope this helps!
Don't be left out of the conversation. Have your hearing evaluated if you seem to be having increased difficulty understanding speech and discuss options for support.
Hearing Care Resources is here to provide hearing testing in compliance with CDC guidelines for COVID protection and to discuss and demonstrate options for care. https://www.aarp.org/health/conditions-treatments/info-2020/masks-hearing-loss.html
