Why does the dentist poke my gums during my checkup? Periodontal charting is the practice of using a probe to measure the distance between your gums and where they attach to your teeth. This area or space is often called a “pocket,” and the size of these pockets is an indicator of how healthy or unhealthy your gums and bone support are. During your periodontal charting, your dentist will call out numbers. The numbers you hear are the depths of the pockets around your teeth in millimeters. Smaller, tighter pockets usually mean healthier gums. What do the numbers mean? ▫️ 0-3mm without bleeding means you are in great shape. Be proud! 🥳 ▫️ 4mm with bleeding is an early sign of gingivitis. Better at-home care will probably get you back on track! 😄 ▫️ >5mm with bleeding indicates gum (periodontal) disease . More hygiene visits and special treatment (deep cleaning) will probably be necessary in addition to better at-home care. 😣
What are the benefits of Invisalign over braces? Invisalign is an increasingly popular means to fix poorly aligned teeth due to its ease of use and comfort. Invisalign offers many benefits over traditional orthodontic approaches, like braces. These benefits include: ▫️Invisibility, so when people see you, they see your real teeth, not a mouthful of metal ▫️Comfort, because the soft plastic won’t cut your mouth like sharp metal braces ▫️Convenience, because you can remove them quickly whenever you need to brush, floss, or eat ▫️Timing, because consistent Invisalign treatments work up to 50% quicker than other orthodontic techniques Call Heights Dental today to book a consultation! 929.337.1900 🦷
