On September 11th 2001, FDNY Firefighter Mike Kehoe was photographed as he rushed up the North Tower, while many other people were rushing down. He looked calm and resolute and innocent, just another guy hurrying to work on a Tuesday morning.
Like most firefighters based in lower Manhattan, Kehoe and his colleagues were at the trade center minutes after the first hijacked plane crashed into the north tower. A bystander in the stairwell described:
"So many people were terrified and fleeing for their lives. I saw this fireman and he was just going up. And he didn't miss one damn step! To me, this was just simply magnificent."
It so happens that Mike Kehoe--husband of Edra, son of Robert, brother of Jimmy and the funniest guy on Engine 28, Ladder 11 on East 2nd Street in the East Village--is very much still alive.
He spent every night out in the World Trade Center wreckage for months, 10 hour shifts, digging and tearing and hauling and looking for the six men from Engine 28 still buried under the mess.

It’s important to remember that installing gutters around your house doesn’t have to create an eyesore that drags down your property value. In fact, it may be possible to install gutters that match your home well enough to make them blend in.
Peeling paint around your gutters is a sure sign that your gutters are leaking water, which in turn is causing the paint to peel and may be resulting in other water damage as well. It’s important to address this gutter issue right away, as it can lead to extensive structural damage in the building itself.
When installing or repairing a gutter system, make sure to insist on rust resistant screws. Anything else will oxidize (rust) and can create unsightly streaks on stucco, brick, wood and siding.
