Today is National Coloring Day! Whether it’s been decades or merely days, National Coloring Day is all about setting aside some time for ourselves to, well, color. One of the projects we are working on is a coloring book filled with pages created by residents and team members at our Pinnacle Living communities. It will be ready for distribution this fall! Here's a glimpse at a couple of pages.
Hermitage resident John Alford suggested and organized a project to acknowledge the 75th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day, also known as V-J Day (August 15, 1945). He and three other residents, representing different branches of the U.S. military, shared their memories of their service to our country and particularly the events of that day. Their comments, with accompanying images projected on the screen behind them, were recorded and will be combined into a video to share with the rest of our community beginning August 31.
Milestone birthday celebrations are certainly different during this time of pandemic but we still need to celebrate! Yesterday we honored longtime Hermitage Northern Virginia resident Margaret Boardman on her 107th birthday! Radiant as ever! Happy birthday, Ms. Boardman!
Last Sunday afternoon, David Pederson offered an outdoor concert for our residents. David, a volunteer, sat up his music stand and played his saxophone, even though the weather was a little toasty - in the high 90’s, Thank you, David!
Here's a peek at our renovations. Much progress has been made since the day Executive Director, Chris Gardner, stood with residents in the old lobby to describe what was taking place. The excitement is building! Here's a glimpse of the work on the new library and dining spaces.
During the pandemic, residents at Hermitage Northern Virginia have been enjoying programs on Zoom as a way to explore their creative talents. Look at this beautiful work created during a Zoom art session!
We gave you a little sneak peek at the renovated lobby yesterday. Are you ready to see more? You'll see why resident Hope Fogwell says, “I really like all the new improvements to the lobby!”
Fall is in full swing at Hermitage Northern Virginia, complete with fall decorations in our newly renovated lobby!

Residents who have died in the past year were remembered and celebrated at Hermitage Northern Virginia’s All Saints’ Day service yesterday. Rev. Kathy Howell, our chaplain, offering a blessing over each participant.
Here's another look at our renovations. We agree with resident Millie Kilburn who says, "The new design in the dining room is great, especially the window shades!”
This afternoon we honored all those who have served and are currently serving during a special "Honoring the Brave" Veteran's Day Program. We were blessed to honor three of our own veterans: residents John Alford and Peg Bixler who served in World War II and team member Chris Smith. Thank you, April Beldo-Lilley, for joining us virtually as our guest speaker. Ms. Beldo-Lilley is the Director of Human Resources for Kent, Campa & Kate, Inc. (KCK) and Fleet Master Chief (Retired) with the United States Navy.
We started our Thanksgiving celebrations a little early with residents of the Hermitage Health Care Center each receiving a bag of Thanksgiving goodies from team members and a Pie Bye. The Pie Bye was a wonderful treat for families missing loved ones due to COVID-19 and a pleasure for team members to connect with family members, if only to hand them a PIE and say "BYE, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!".
It's beginning to look very festive around here!
As part of our holiday festivities, we offered residents and team members the opportunity to take a special portrait. Look how well they turned out! We hope the families and friends who received them see the joy.
We honored and recognized our heroes with a holiday team member celebration this week. Enjoy a few of the pictures!
The full moon rising above our building this week gave the opportunity to catch some beautiful photos. All of us at Hermitage Northern Virginia wish you a happy New Year and a very bright 2021!
In all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we paused to celebrate a milestone birthday for one of our residents, John Leeper. He was so excited to begin his 100th year on December 22. Aren't we supposed to celebrate birthdays for the entire month?
We have so much to celebrate today! Here are just a few photos to honor our steps to stop COVID-19.
We've been waiting for this day and now we are ready! Our partners at Walgreens are prepared for residents and team members to begin receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.
The January 21st edition of the Alexandria Times featured a two-page “senior profile” highlighting Peg Bixler, one of our residents. Mrs. Bixler is such an inspiration! We're honored to share her story here.

Three team members from each Pinnacle Living Community, along with the Pinnacle Living Leadership Team, recently participated in a professional development program led by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities (VCIC) to enhance our workplace culture. The 15 new Diversity and Inclusivity Ambassadors will now help each community grow and enhance inclusive work and living environments for our team members and residents. VCIC is inspiring us to implement initiatives to advance inclusion in our organization. Who is inspiring you to be more positive and mindful in these challenging times? #ReclaimSocial

What better way to celebrate Employee Appreciation Day than with Chick-fil-A’s famous chicken sandwiches! Hermitage Northern Virginia team members were blessed with a delicious lunch donated by Celebration DC Church. Elaine, of Celebration DC reached out to church member, Kenya Bryant, Associate Executive Director, with the idea to show appreciation to those working on the frontlines to support seniors in the Alexandria community. What a fun way to celebrate and honor our healthcare heroes!
We are thrilled with the reopening of our dining room that started on Thursday and seeing our residents eat together again and witnessing our dining team members in full swing in the kitchen! Now, we cannot decide what is more filling: the food or the smiling faces of everyone altogether?😊
Happy Saturday! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Virtual Connect zoom call this Monday. We were delighted to have had over 34 family members and friends who could join the meeting.
