You may be spending a lot more time on your computer looking at several screens, trying to get everything done. Monovision (or blended vision) is not a procedure but rather an approach for treating presbyopia. As part of the normal aging process beginning in the mid-40s, the lens in the eye starts to lose its flexibility, making near vision blurred. When this happens, people find they need to use reading glasses or bifocals to restore close up vision. Monovision can also be achieved with premium lenses at the time of Refractive Lens Exchange or Refractive Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery. After the clear lens or cataract is removed, a toric or aspheric IOL is inserted in its place. The non-dominant eye is treated for near vision and the dominant eye for distance vision. Again, the eyes work together to give clear vision, both near and distance. Visit our website to learn more about Monovision to determine if it is the best choice for you: https://bit.ly/31x2bCg

Keratoconus is a progressive disease of the cornea that occurs in children, teenagers, and young adults. The cornea begins to thin causing the shape of the eye to change from a dome to a cone. Before being diagnosed with Keratoconus, patients may begin to find that their glasses or contacts are no longer doing a good job correcting their vision or they may experience increasing unexplained astigmatism. Dr. Herschel served as a Principal Investigator on an FDA multi-center Phase III clinical trial using corneal collagen cross-linking to treat patients with Keratoconus. The treatment was approved by the FDA in April 2016. Dr. Herschel was the only ophthalmologist in Central Florida participating in the trial, and our center has more experience treating patients with Keratoconus than any vision center in Central Florida. Young adults may have nearsightedness, astigmatism, farsightedness, or a combination, and they likely have had stable vision for several years. This gives them many options including glasses, contact lenses, and vision correction procedures. This age group also has the greatest cost-benefit over time from a surgical procedure. Couple those benefits with active lifestyles, quick recovery, and the proven safety and efficacy of vision correction procedures, and many young adults are opting for surgical vision correction. Traditional cataract surgery implants a singular focus lens after the procedure to replace the eye’s natural lens leaving the patient often needing glasses after the procedure. On the other hand there is now the option to implant a premium intraocular lens(IOL) during cataract surgery to address any underlying vision problems that could not be dealt with prior to cataract surgery. To learn more about premium IOL’s and book an appointment with Dr. Herschel, visit our website! https://bit.ly/2YFGI89

Multifocal intraocular lenses are used for patients (including patients with astigmatism), who want to restore their full range of vision in both eyes, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for glasses and contact lenses. Multifocal IOLs contain concentric rings of different magnifications that enable a wide range of clear vision. The rings help the brain select the right focus automatically. Dr. Herschel will work with you to determine which premium lens is best for your vision needs. With Halloween this weekend, it’s important to remember the dangers of color contact lenses without a prescription! Sure they may add some extra flair to your costume, but they can also lead to some nasty eye problems! Such as eyesores, infections, and in some cases even vision loss! If you want to get color contacts to add a little extra to your costume keep these couple of things in mind: - See a doctor prior to the use of cosmetic contacts. - Still get a prescription for your contacts, and ONLY buy from retailers who require a prescription and sell FDA approved lenses. - Wearing cosmetic contacts from third-party vendors that are not FDA approved could result in permanent vision loss, be safe!

At Herschel LASIK we offer a number of different premium intraocular lenses (IOL’s) to alleviate underlying vision issues that can be addressed during cataract surgery after the hardened lens has been removed. One type of these premium lenses is the Aspherical IOL. Aspheric intraocular lenses are used to treat a wide range of nearsightedness and farsightedness in patients with spherical aberrations. This IOL corrects correct spherical aberrations as well as nearsightedness and farsightedness, resulting in clearer, crisper daytime and nighttime vision and better contrast sensitivity. While this IOL is great, it is not for everyone, learn more about our IOL options, and schedule a consultation with Dr. Herschel today so he can help determine the best option for your vision needs! https://bit.ly/2YFGI89

If you’re looking for an alternative to traditional LASIK, consider an Implantable Collamer Lens, or ICL. ICL’s are implanted in the eye and work with the natural lens to focus light clearly on the retina. These lenses are perfect LASIK alternatives because they do not reshape the cornea, and in some cases can even allow for a greater range of vision correction than LASIK depending on what your vision needs are. ICL’s are quickly implanted, do not cause dry eye after the surgery like other eye procedures commonly do, and can be removed later on down the road as well! Contact Dr. Herschel today to see if a Visian ICL is right for you! https://bit.ly/2TGjcoR
I’m smiling because I’m on my way to Herschel LASIK for LASIK Surgery. Goodbye foggy glasses 👋
If it is determined that LASIK is not the best vision correction for you, don’t worry! Dr. Herschel may decide that Visian ICL is the best procedure for you! An ICL will achieve the same type of results as LASIK, without the need to remove tissue from the cornea! Schedule a LASIK consultation with Dr. Herschel to discuss the best procedure for your vision! https://bit.ly/36zjCV1
During your LASIK consultation, Dr. Herschel may determine that there is a better procedure for your vision. One of which is PRK! This surgery is very similar to LASIK, but the way the cornea is reshaped is different, and the recovery times are also different between the two! PRK provides comparable results to LASIK as well! Schedule your consultation with Dr. Herschel to determine the best starting point to your clear vision journey! https://bit.ly/308Y6lQ
