Today (October 17th) is National Move Over Day. This day is about creating more awareness for all responders and the laws that protect them while doing their job. Please help us by sharing this important message with all motorists. Keep your eyes open for Police, Fire trucks, Ambulances, Street maintenance workers, Tow truck drivers, and all workers on the side of the road. Besides, it’s Alabama state law to #MoveOverAndSlowDown when you see an vehicle with flashing lights on the side of the road. No matter if it’s a tow truck, a police car, or a stranded motorist... #ItsTheLaw and This keeps everyone safe.

Together with Cub Scout Pack 4026 we close out the year 2020 by donating nearly 2 Tons of Christmas Trees [3,960 lbs] that were picked up at homes across Ferndale, loaded up on our Landoll and transported to RDS to be recycled!
This annual Christmas Tree Pickup was made possible by the parents of Cub Scout Pack 4026 and their helpful Cub Scouts! Thank you for picking up all those trees and helping us load them up, see you guys next Holiday Season!!

The "Move Over Law" (RCW 46.61.212.1) aims to protect any emergency worker who is on the shoulder of the roadway with emergency lights on performing official duties. This law applies to law enforcement, firefighters, tow truck operators, solid waste trucks, as well as public works employees. Failure to comply can result in a $217 penalty.
The weather conditions in Whatcom County can create limited visibility on the roadways with light being limited by the clouds, rain, and/or fog in our daily commute.
During a recent four-hour traffic safety emphasis, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit contacted 45 drivers. When you see those emergency lights on the shoulder of the roadways, please slow down and move over as soon as it’s safe enough to do so. Let’s help keep our emergency workers safe as they perform their job for Whatcom County.

It would appear that less people are on the road today, but we are still pulling quite a few cars from ditches and snowy driveways. Most of Bellingham is decent but out in the County and the Lummi Reservation are quite slick with considerable snow and ice on the roads

The little Pickup that could!
We came out to a customer's property this morning with Medium Duty #406 and one of our Roadside Service Trucks (#206) to help her move this tiny home from one part of the property to the other.
The original plan was to use the tow truck to tow the trailer and winch with the service truck if it got stuck ... spoiler alert: it got stuck immediately because the ground was even softer than we had expected
Plan B: Use the Service Truck to pull the tiny home and the tow truck to winch if needed. We knew this was a lot of weight for the little F-150 but we were on private property so we decided to give it a go. It pulled it out all by itself without even needing a winch!!
