Adults should know how to protect aging loved ones in nursing homes from a serious injury. HFKYLAWYERS.COM How To Protect Loved Ones From Bedsores
***PLEASE SHARE THIS POST*** Sued “hospitals treating COVID patients”? FALSE. Sued “businesses developing vaccines for coronavirus”? FALSE. The TRUTH is both cases cited in a new defamatory political ad about our law firm were filed in 2019, OVER SIX MONTHS BEFORE the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the United States. The TRUTH is the first case* cited in the ad was filed in May 2019 against a hospital in Louisville where our client, a deaf pregnant woman, was denied access to a sign language interpreter during a c-section, which was a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The other case cited** was filed in July 2019 against the manufacturer of a brain shunt that turned out to be defective and that caused our client severe neurological problems. The TRUTH is we refuse to apologize for helping people who have been injured or killed by bad actors. We refuse to apologize for representing a 10-year-old girl in Harrodsburg whose mother and little brother were killed when a semi-truck driver ran a stop sign because he was distracted by his GPS. We refuse to apologize for representing a plumber in Lexington who was nearly killed when a pickup truck negligently turned into his path. We refuse to apologize for representing a schoolteacher who was catastrophically injured and her career was ended when a spray truck made an illegal U-turn in front of her on the highway in Hardin County. We refuse to apologize for representing the family of a young girl in Lexington who was killed when a DUI driver ran a red light going more than 80 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. TRUTH. When we’re not representing our clients, we help our community at-large by donating money, time, and resources to Kentucky Habitat for Humanity, God’s Pantry Food Bank, the Big Blue Pantry at UK, March of Dimes, The Nest-Center for Women, Children, and Families in Lexington, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass, Dress for Success Lexington, the Junior League of Lexington Horse Show, WEKU Public Radio, the Western Little League, the Tyler Childers’ Martin County Water Drop Off, and even delivering frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving. Over the past three years, we helped collect the equivalent of over 75,000 pounds of food during the Legal Food Frenzy and helped Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass raise over $20,000 for their 10 for $10 fundraiser. We attended the Habitat for Humanity Shamrock Shuffle, LFUC Human Rights Commission Picnic With the Police, first annual DiverCity Festival, Little Angels Campaign Against Drunk Driving, Festival Latino, Pride Festival, Dress for Success Recycle the Runway event, A Night for The Nest, the Lexington Dream Factory Annual Gala, the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children Gala, and Kentucky State Police Foundation Gold for Gray Gala. We are not “Hucksters” and anybody who claims we are is defaming everyone at our firm, a small business in Central Kentucky, and depicting us in a false light. We refuse to let our firm - or our clients - be bullied by anyone, no matter how rich or powerful. Sincerely, Greg Funfsinn Founding Member HICKS & FUNFSINN, PLLC HonestFearless.com *Gina Curry v. Our Law Clerk Mitchum Addison Whitaker started with us in June and has done an outstanding job. Mitch is from Letcher County and is currently a 3L at UK Rosenburg College of Law. We look forward to him joining us as an Attorney next fall. Here’s his inspirational bio: Nobody can relate with injury victims like Mitch. When he was only 17 years old, he received news that no teenager should have to hear; his parents were hit by a drunk driver. Mitch’s father only suffered minor injuries, but tragically, his mother was unable to recover from her severe injuries and passed away the next day. While the emotional toll on Mitch and his family was unbearable, the financial toll almost cost them everything. The drunk driver was uninsured and his mother’s insurance company only offered a fraction of the outstanding medical and funeral bills. Faced with financial uncertainty and harassing bill collectors, Mitch’s father could have easily accepted the insurance company’s low offer, as many victims feel like it is the best they can do. Fortunately, though, he hired an attorney who took the company to court and got the family a much more reasonable settlement. Although the settlement could never replace what was taken from him, it allowed Mitch and his family to recover from a financial situation that they never should have been in. Over ten years later, Mitch has turned this tragedy into a source of inspiration for his career. Unlike most attorneys, Mitch does not have to imagine the struggles that injury victims face. He has lived them. This level of understanding provides our clients with a level of service that cannot be attained anywhere else. Mitch is a native of the Eastern Kentucky Coalfields and graduated from Letcher County Central High School in 2011. After taking an interest in the local 4-H club, he attended the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics. During college, Mitch served as the president of his fraternity and underwent several notable internships, including positions with U.S. Representative Hal Rogers and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. After graduation, he worked in the agricultural sector as an assistant manager of a feed mill in Cincinnati, OH and as a sales representative in Sioux Falls, SD. He then returned to his home state to attend the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he has served in various leadership positions. Notably, he was elected president of the Appalachian Law Caucus, a student organization focusing on Appalachian legal issues, and as the At-Large Representative of the Student Bar Association. In addition to working on behalf of injury victims in Eastern and Central Kentucky, Mitch enjoys spending time watching Netflix with his wife, Brandy, and their little dog, Milly. When he is not thinking about work or his family, his mind is usually focused on farming. Mitch loves to talk with other agriculturists and can often be found at local farmer’s markets. He hopes to run his own farm in the future, but for now, his only livestock is a pug-chihuahua mix.
