Items to keep in your First Aid Dental Emergency kit at home:
- Save-a-Tooth® System: A tooth begins to die within 15 minutes of being knocked out of the mouth. The Save-A-Tooth system includes a solution that will keep the tooth alive for up to 24 hours until you can get to a dentist. This system is Hanks Balanced Salt Solution. If you don’t have this solution available, you can use milk!
- Storage container for the tooth
- Sterile Gauze: You can use gauze to help stop bleeding and also to move the tongue, which is quite slippery when you have gloves on.
- Disposable Gloves
- Ice Pack: Ice packs can help reduce swelling when a tooth is lost.
- Pain Medication: Over-the-counter pain medication, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen, can also help relieve oral pain.
- Your dentist’s phone number and information to call for an emergency!
