We have been getting asked a lot about the future of both restaurants and we want to ensure everyone that Danny put the right people in place YEARS ago. He wanted to always make sure that his legacy, and the iconic restaurants he created, will live on for more generations to come. While Danny oversaw everything, there have been many employees working in the trenches and know just how he wanted things and how we should operate.
Debbie, Danielle, and Dana will remain very active at the restaurants and continue to greet and check-in on customers....just as Danny did and would want to go on.
That being said, we want to share some background and insight (along with some Danny stories) from our leadership 🙂
𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗳 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻
I graduated from the Culinary Institute of American in 1994 and I've been at Hoffstot's ever since. Upon graduating, my now wife, Megan, and I were driving around the Pittsburgh area dropping off my resume to every restaurant when we drove through Oakmont on our way home. I had never heard of Hoffstot's but the building looked inviting so we decided to drop off my last resume with the hostess. As I walked out to my car a man CHASED me down, a man none other than Dan Monacohimself. We spoke a little in the parking lot and he told me to come in the very next day to interview with his head chef, John Miceli. I was employed by the end of the week and worked for 8 years under Miceli'sguidance until I became Executive Chef myself. Having been here more than a quarter of a century, this place and these people are more like family. Danny & Tommy Monaco always treated me as a son, pushing me beyond my doubts and reminding me when I didn't give my best. Although they're irreplaceable, I feel compelled in continuing what they started here in 1972; whether it be thanking each and every table personally during dinner service or the beautiful flowers that adorn the entryways, the standard you've come to know here at Hoffstot's will always continue.

I started in1973 as a bartender at The Wooden Keg in Oakland and was instantly hooked. I met Dan Monaco in 1973 as well, as he was friends with my boss and came in fairly regularly. We have been friends ever since.
In 1979 I opened The Elbow Room in Shadyside with a partner and I stayed there until 2003. In 2007 I decided to retire and actually moved to Arizona to enjoy my golden years. Danny laughed and told me that I would never last, but threw me a going-away party anyways. Low and behold, a mere 14 months later I was back in Pennsylvania and opening an Aspinwall restaurant with a partner.
In September of 2017, Danny offered me the floor manager position at Hoffstot's and it was a perfect fit. Dan Monaco was a great man and an even better man to work for and I am honored to keep his restaurant open for the rest of my lifetime.
𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲
I Graduated in 2015, and have a bachelor's in business administration and a minor in accounting and marketing. I was hired by Danny and Tommy Monaco in October of 2016 and honestly was probably given way too much responsibility within my first year here but the experience I gained at this restaurant is immeasurable.
I distinctly recall multiple people talking about how I would never last a week working for the Monacos, or in the service industry in general.
Both brothers treated me as a daughter (both the good and the bad), and I couldn't be more proud to be a part of this family. Danny asked me numerous occasions where I saw my future self and honestly, I never saw myself leaving this place. I'm excited to be continuing his great legacy here in Oakmont and hope I make him proud.
So, long story short...We love you all and WE AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE.
We know some of you have already heard but today begins our sad (but also happy for Ivy!) countdown of one more week with our sweet, Ivy. Friday, February 12, will officially be her last day with us (although, we do see some "Celebrity" bartending in her future 😉 ) Ivy has been a Hoffstot's staple for over 30 years and this place won't ever be the same without her.
We invite you all to stop on down and wish her the best because we all know she deserves it!
She may be leaving the bar but she'll always be family. We wish you all the luck in the world and we love you, Ivy! Thank you for 30+ years.

Well kids it’s time for me to hang up my bar towel. I want to thank the Monaco Family for giving me the opportunity for an amazing 30 years. You started out as my bosses' and quickly grew into family. I will miss you all dearly.
My customers who became friends and then family . . . I’ll miss you also. (Some more than others lol). But now I can have a cocktail with you at happy hour instead of making one.
