Starting this Thu Oct 1 through Sun Oct 18, the National Park Service is piloting a vehicle reservation system to prepare for a full season of operation in 2021. The system currently applies only to two of the most-congested areas of the park. Vehicle reservations are required for the Cadillac Summit Road (4:30 am to 6:30 pm) and Sand Beach Entrance (7 am to 5 pm). A portion of all reservations are held for release 48 hours in advance and, so long as inventory remains available, can be purchased up until the date and time of a visit. Vehicle reservations can only be purchased online. There are no on-site sales locations where a vehicle reservations can be purchased in-person. A non-refundable third-party booking fee is required. Vehicle reservation fees are not included in paid park entrance fees or passes. The Vehicle Reservation System is one aspect of a comprehensive Transportation Plan that has been under discussion and development for more than five years, and may take a decade or longer to implement fully. Its purpose is to reduce congestion, increase safety, protect park resources, improve visitor experience, and make parking and trip planning more predictable.
