GEORGIA MUSEUM OF AGRICULTURE HOSTS SPECIAL CELEBRATION – On May 31, 1886, one of the greatest engineering achievements in American History happened right here in Georgia. In just over 36 hours, crews of laborers moved over 11,500 miles of railroad track to ensure that the railways in Georgia would be re-gauged to match the width of tracks in neighboring states. Visit the Georgia Museum of Agriculture Historic Village’s Industrial Area on Saturday, May 27 and try your hand at working as a team to re-gauge the railroad track and experience what it would have been like to move enough track that could stretch from Atlanta to Los Angeles nearly 4 times over! Hours are 9 am until 4 pm. The Vulcan No. 5 Steam Train will be running, too!
CONCERT NEWS – McAlpin Entertainment and Six String Southern Productions presents Vince Gill, live in concert on Thursday, June 8. Vince Gill is famous for his top-notch songwriting, world-class guitar playing and warm, soaring tenor, all wrapped up in a quick and easy wit. GEORGIA MUSEUM OF AGRICULTURE SPECIAL EVENTS & EXHIBITS – The Georgia Museum of Agriculture has several special events planned and new exhibits coming. Check them out:
• Lawyer’s Office & Barber Shop Exhibit: Gain insight into the life of a traveling circuit judge and imagine yourself in an old-fashioned barber’s chair when these new exhibits open on Saturday, April 8. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 1:30 pm at the Village drug store. The law office is modeled after Judge J.L. Sweat’s office, a traveling circuit judge from the late 1800s. Period correct paints and textiles, reclaimed period ceiling tin tiles, reproduction Victorian fixtures and lighting are all part of the design. A law library, built from scratch, is filled with over 300 volumes of law books dating back to the late 1700s. Additional office artifacts were pulled from the Museum collection to complete the exhibit. The law office can be found in a room above the drug store. As an extra added attraction, Sweat’s descendants also decided to support a bonus installation, a barber shop booth.
• Folklife Festival: Visitors can enjoy a celebration of the rich, rural heritage of South Georgia during the annual Folklife Festival on Saturday, April 8. The event runs from 9 am until 4 pm. The biggest moment of the day will be the firing of the turpentine still at 11 am. The festival is all about hands on activities including tree debarking and hewing, sheep shearing, wool spinning, weaving and washing, pine needle basket making and a quilt square sewing demo. Guests can also visit the antique and model tractors that will be on display. The Blacksmith’s forge will be busy with demos and of course the steam train will be running. The sweet sounds of bluegrass music will fill the air all around the Village.
• Linda O’Sullivan: A Celtic Perspective: This new quilting exhibit will open at Saturday, April 8 as part of the American Legacy Quilt Show and Folklife Festival. The exhibit will showcase 24 unique quilts by the artist and be on display in the Art Gallery at the Museum through July 20.
• Wiregrass Easter Celebration: You are invited to celebrate Easter at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture. Interpreters in the Gibbs House will be serving up a traditional festival style pot of Chicken Perleau. The little ones can participate in the 1st Annaul Wiregrass Easter Celebration Egg Hunt at 1 pm. Bring a basket or make your own while you are there at the Clark Homeplace.

ARTS IN BLACK FESTIVAL – Make plans to enjoy the annual Arts in Black Festival on Saturday, April 29. This year’s theme is “The Journey: Embracing our Treasures Past, Present and Future.” The fun kicks off at 11 am in Fulwood Park and lasts all day. Entertainment, vendors, information and much more can be found at the festival. The weekend also includes a Talent Show on Friday night and Poetry Competition on Sunday.

AN AUTUMN WEEKEND
SEVERAL SEASONAL EVENTS MAKE A BUSY SATURDAY
We are full throttle into fall, with Thanksgiving less than three weeks away, but the weather is still warm and bordering on hot. Temperatures have been the 80s, and some of us have kept our summer clothes handy.
But temperatures are forecast to fall this weekend by about 10 degrees, just in time for a Saturday full of local seasonal events.
Downtown Tifton will be buzzing with folks visiting the annual Artists' Market on Love at the Tifton Museum of Arts & Heritage. You will see artists at work, hear local musicians, meet local authors, taste local food -- and view a wide variety of handcrafted arts and crafts available for purchase.
The Artists' Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 5, at the museum, 225 Love Ave.
he Mistletoe Market is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the conference center, 15 RDC Road, Exit 64 off I-75.
And another annual autumn event this Saturday is the cane-grinding and syrup-making event at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village. This is an opportunity to experience an old South Georgia tradition.
The ABAC Concert Choir will perform a variety of choral music at its fall concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in Howard Auditorium on the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The concert is free and open to the public.
T.R.' COMES ALIVE ON STAGE
IN ONE-MAN SHOW
American icon Teddy Roosevelt comes alive on the Howard Auditorium stage on Sunday, Nov. 6, when actor Derek Evans performs his one-man show, "Man in the Arena," at 3 p.m. on the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
The performance is part of the ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series.
