On this day... 19 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. Beach renourishment project stirs rare shells onto Lido Beach

Beach renourishment continues over Labor Day weekend. New chair and umbrella rentals begin.
As you can see in this aerial photo (shot 9/5), the renourishment project has moved past the The Ritz-Carlton Beach Club. According to City Manager Tom Barwin, the contractor is ahead of schedule and may reach North Lido and be finished in October.
Since the south parking lot is being used for equipment and temporary offices for the dredging company, parking is a little more limited. While there's plenty of parking during the week, on weekends it's a good idea to get to the beach by about 11am.
The new concession operator has started beach rentals. Currently, it is only available across from the Holiday Inn Sarasota-Lido Beach-@the Beach. Eventually, plans are to have it also available at the Pavilion. Daily rental of a chaise lounge is $12 and an umbrella is $15. Available from 10am - 5pm. According to Lazlo, of Salute Sarasota, who has the new contract for Lido, he hopes to have the concession stand open by December.
