HCRI was founded by Dr. Ron. Webster in 1972 to investigate stuttering using scientific methods and develop new treatment approaches. Since that time, the nonprofit center has become a leader in stuttering research and therapy innovation. HCRI clinicians have treated 6,500+ people from across the U.S. and 50 other countries.
THE HCRI DIFFERENCE
Comprehensive, behavioral therapy for stuttering was invented by Dr. Webster and tested at HCRI with thousands of people who stutter, representing a full range of stuttering types and severities. Ongoing analysis by HCRI researchers led to exciting discoveries, ongoing therapy refinements, and new treatment tools. Dr. Webster and his team also created new ways to use technology in therapy that make fluency learning more practical and long lasting.
THERAPY EXPERIENCE
HCRI stuttering therapy is intensive, quantitatively measured, and lasts for 12 days. Participants work with specially trained clinicians and learn how to retrain speech muscles to produce fluent speech. Clients also learn how to transfer newly acquired fluency into real-world situations. HCRI offers comprehensive post-therapy support and technology tools.
FLUENCY RESULTS
Data reveals that HCRI offers among the highest fluency outcomes of available treatment options.
• 90-93% of participants acquire fluency by the end of the 12-day treatment
• 70-75% retain fluency when evaluated two years post therapy
