Holloway's is an homage to our city's rich history as the candy capital of the world. Since the late 1800s, Chicago - and the River North area in particular - has been a dynamic hub for the Windy City's sweetest industry. A key member of this confectionary revolution was Milton J. Holloway, who discovered the candy business with a small sum of cash and a big American dream. He bought F. Hoffman & Company, the original producer of a chocolate-covered caramel treat called a "Milk Dud" - named so for its amorphous shape when attempts to make it round had failed. The feisty Holloway would run the plant for the next 30+ years, with the claim to fame of putting the perfectly imperfect Milk Duds on the map. So, raise your glass to Mr. Holloway, and a pub inspired by a quirky candy with humble roots in Chicago lore. And here's to being a bit of a dud every now and then. We're here to celebrate your own imperfections.
