Homeland Hospice has found that for many patients and their families, a simple home-cooked soup or casserole that can be taken from the freezer, heated, and enjoyed is a huge blessing. Accepting that our own or a loved one's life is limited to a few months, weeks or days is gut-wrenching. Nothing puts us in the holiday spirit quite like seeing Homeland Center decorated with poinsettias! The flowers are known to symbolize good cheer and success and are said to bring wishes of mirth and celebration.
Last week Homeland Center residents created holiday cards for members of the U.S. Air Force serving in the US and abroad. The idea developed out of a discussion between Jennifer Murray, Director of Personal Care, and Aleisha Connors, Director of Activities, about service men and woman being unable to come home for the holidays. Jennifer’s son Quintin is a member of the United States Air Force who is currently deployed. The cards are being sent to service members in Texas, Illinois, Utah, Arizona, North Dakota and many other undisclosed areas where the troops are deployed. As soon as the residents heard the idea, they jumped at the chance to participate. Many participating residents are veterans who served during WWII. To all veterans and those currently serving, the staff and residents here at Homeland appreciate you and thank you for your service!
Happy Hanukkah from the Homeland family.

Often touted as the most wonderful time of the year, the holidays can bring on a host of mixed emotions when caring for a dying loved one.
