Today, we are celebrating Sheryl McDurmon on 12 years as the Human Resource Coordinator at Hospice Ministries. Her journey began when she worked with our founder Dan Broughton and former director Belinda Patterson Manor at another healthcare facility before Hospice Ministries was formed. Years later in 2008, after having left the area, she returned and filled the role at Hospice Ministries alongside her former co-workers. Since then, she has served our organization far beyond her job description by helping in any way she can. We thank her for her years of hard-work and dedication to our ministry!
We are celebrating Tabitha Sistrunk for recently completing her Licensed Practical Nurse program from Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She has worked as a Hospice Aide at Hospice Ministries for four years. We are proud of her accomplishment and happy to have Tabitha as part of our Inpatient team!
We are celebrating Suzannah Britt, Executive Director, on 19 years working for Hospice Ministries. Her journey began in 2001 when she became the Patient Care Coordinator at our Brookhaven office. After 13 years in that role, she served as Director of Clinical Services for 3 years and has now served as Executive Director for 3 years. Suzannah leads Hospice Ministries with her most valuable asset- her heart. Her passion for our ministry inspires those that work under her leadership and helps our team accomplish the mission of providing compassionate care to our patients and their families. We could not be more proud or thankful for her valuable work and deep dedication to our organization.
Today is #GriefAwarenessDay, an opportunity to recognize and think about losses that have significantly impacted our lives. Grief is an ongoing process; it is not a quick 10-step program or a process that can be rushed. Grief has its own timetable and it looks different for every person. As we become more self-aware, the loss of someone or something valuable in life often can help us gain a new perspective on life.
The Hospice Ministries Bereavement Department is here to provide emotional care for anyone suffering the loss of a loved one. We offer support and education on healthy grieving in a variety of ways— through phone counseling sessions, support groups and educational material packets that can be sent as needed and requested. We also offer the services of the McClean Fletcher Center, the state’s only grief support center for children. Learn more about our services here:

Wilhelmina Winston has been our Inpatient Chaplain in Ridgeland for 3 years. Her compassionate heart and patient attitude shine through each day. She consistently provides support for our patients, their families, and even her fellow employees. Wilhelmina is certainly an integral piece to our Hospice Ministries puzzle. #SpiritualCareWeek
Hospice Ministries is celebrating #SpiritualCareWeek to honor and recognize our chaplains and their work. This year's theme is Collaborative Healthcare: Chaplains complete the picture. Our chaplains play an integral role in our complete care for each patient. By spending time with each patient and their family, our chaplains do all they can to meet their individual spiritual needs. Thank you to all our chaplains for their dedication to our ministry and the families we serve! Stay tuned this week to learn more about each of the chaplains that complete our picture.
A special part of what we do at Hospice Ministries is being able to care for those in a vulnerable and sensitive time. It takes special people to understand their situations and Donna Claycomb is one of those people. Celebrating 11 years working for Hospice Ministries as a Social Worker, Donna deeply cares for each patient and family that she serves. She has a heart for our mission and we are grateful for her compassion and all her work!
To conclude #HospiceMonth, we wanted to share how our team has gone above and beyond to adapt to the changing times during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the help of our volunteers, community, and staff, we were able to adjust in a way that kept our patients and our staff as safe as possible. Read our newest blog post to find out how we responded to the restrictions of the pandemic:

Her patients are her priority and she puts her all into providing individualized care for each patient. Thank you for all you do, Pat!
#HospiceMonth #hapcFacesOfCaring
Our last hospice myth for #HospiceMonth is: Hospice care is expensive. Most patients end up paying very little, if any, out of pocket costs as hospice services are generally covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances. In any case, Hospice Ministries provides care based purely on need and never on the ability to pay.

Hospice Ministries is celebrating 15 years with the wonderful Carol Davis as part of our Dietary staff in Ridgeland. Along with the rest of the team, she works each day to meet the nutritional needs of each individual patient. Thank you for years of hard work and heartfelt service, Carol!

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a day of service and remembrance. May we all follow his example of service, love and equality.
